Well, this is most definitely a coincidence. NBC announced that Christina Aguilera will join Cee-Lo and Adam Levine as the judges for the network’s upcoming singing competition The Voice, not even 48 hours after Christina was arrested for public drunkenness with boyfriend Matthew Rutler, with People publishing juicy anonymous quotes concerning Aguilera’s drinking problem earlier today. “She’s saying she’s this strong independent woman and she’s fine, but what she’s not stepping back to realize is that moving on after a divorce is not easy,” says a friend. “She thinks she’s gotten her life together and has already moved on, when maybe she still needs to process it some more.”
It sounds like the friends would rather she wasn’t “processing” the divorce with set assistant Matthew Rutler, who seems a little too fond of the spotlight, and more importantly, the sauce. “There’s a real concern about this guy, and a lot of her friends feel she needs to get away from himl. Hopefully, what happened [on Tuesday] is a real wake up call. She feels she is embracing her freedom and enjoying life…but now friends are hoping that she takes a step back and focuses on herself for a while.” As always, the anonymous insiders seem hopeful that latest low will also be the last—and that goes double if she’s headed for a weekly gig on prime time TV. With Christina’s divorce from Jordan Bratman now settled (“Jordan has been really wonderful through all this,” says the insider. “He’s been really understanding”), there certainly seems reason to believe—and hope—she’ll be able to handle her new role.
