We remember reading a quote as a kid from Johnny Depp, right after he left 21 Jump Street. At the time he said he hated working in television so much, he’d rather dig a hole to the center of the earth with his tongue than ever do it again. But Depp must have had a change of heart (or realized his tongue is not strong enough to dig) because he’s going to work soon on Ricky Gervais‘ BBC2 sitcom.
It was reported earlier this week that Depp and Jerry Seinfeld were both going to appear on Gervais’ show Life’s Too Short, but on his blog, Gervais clarified, “The Depp bit is true, the Seinfeld bit isn’t.” Gervais successfully wooed stars like Kate Winslet, Patrick Stewart and David Bowie to appear on his old show, Extras, so it’s not a surprise that Depp agreed to appear, and we’re thrilled he got over his aversion to television to do so. The series will also air on HBO in the US.
