It’s all in the details. While everyone was surprised to hear Enrique Iglesias bolted from Britney Spear’s tour hours after it was announced, it looks like the announcement itself was the problem. According to TMZ, Enrique was all for a co-headlining tour, but after discussing the matter with folks associated with the tour, he realized he’d be the opening act in all but name—can you imagine her playing a shorter set before him? With Enrique’s music enjoying a major comeback in the US, playing second banana to Brit just wasn’t how he wanted to spend his summer.
While Britney is easily the bigger star with American audiences (Enrique failed score a Top 20 single between his current hits and 2002′s “Escape”) , Iglesias has been an international megastar for a long time, headlining stadium shows in multiple continents for years. Some wonder if it was the idea of following Britney that bothered him so much, but it’s hard to imagine who this guy would feel is worth playing support for.
