Now that The Hunger Games producers have cast Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a search has been underway to find the two men who can round out the post-apocalyptic love triangle in the story. In the books, two men fight for Katniss’ affection: First, there’s Gale Hawthorne, Katniss’ best friend, hunting buddy, and authority-hater who loves Katniss for who she is and has known her forever. It’s been rumored that Liam Hemsworth is the frontrunner for Gale, and while he’s not quite the tan, sinewy guy we imagined, he’s certainly good looking and could pull off the physical work involved.
As for Peeta Mellark, the more good-natured romantic foil who’s sent to compete against Katniss in the titular Hunger Games, he’s likely going to be played by Josh Hutcherson. Hutcherson has expressed interest in Peeta for a while now, saying “I love Peeta. The character is so much who I am—self deprecating, a people person,” and according to a report on Deadline.com, he’s getting close to nabbing the part. This is just the tip of the casting iceberg for this trilogy, we still have Effie, Haymitch and Prim to cast as well.
