What with the thousands of Snow White films due out in the next two years, you can’t blame us for assuming Emily Browning’s Sleeping Beauty was a modern take on the old classic. How horribly, horribly wrong we were. While her star turn in the fantasy action flick Sucker Punch had Browning fighting bad guys in a bizarre fantasy world, Sleeping Beauty features the actress indulging in…well, bizarre fantasies for guys who, if not bad, are at least remarkably creepy. Based on the trailer, the actress stars as a prostitute who takes drugs to knock her unconscious, much to the delight of the fetishes who then spend the night with her. Ugh, where are Browning’s fairy godmothers when she needs them? Or her agent, for that matter?
Since the film is an erotic thriller if we’ve ever seen one, be sure to watch the trailer only in a location where garter belts and unseemly discussions are allowed. Oh, and be sure that you won’t mind being psychologically scarred for the rest of life; it’s pretty horrifying. If we ever had to decide between watching this movie and falling into a coma for twenty years as the result of a witch’s curse….wow, that would really be a coin toss.
