Report: Cry Macho Will Be Arnold Schwarzenegger’s First Post-Gov Film

by Anthony Miccio

Terminator 5 can wait! Vulture reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s initial return to the world of filmmaking will be Cry Macho, about an aging horse trainer who agrees to kidnap his ex-boss’ son for cash out of desperation, only it turns out the kid’s mom doesn’t want him back! If this “old, unappreciated Western guy caught in a criminal conundrum” plot sounds like something Clint Eastwood would do, you’d be right—while Arnold has been attached to the movie for a decade plus, it was Eastwood producers courted when the Schwarz was busy being governor of California.

While Macho definitely sounds like less than a sure thing, it’s pretty astute of Arnold to pick a fresh, cred-building role as he returns to Hollywood, instead of immediately humping the corpse of an old action franchise (though he’ll undoubtedly do that soon enough). After all, if the overgrown action star could pull off a two-term career as governor, who’s to say he couldn’t muscle his way towards a respectable dramatic career? In a decade, he may even be playing King Le-ah.
