Evangeline Lilly‘s movie career didn’t amount to much during her run on Lost, but she’s making up for lost time now. Following her appearance in this fall’s Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robot boxing movie Real Steel, Lilly will star in The Hobbit, joining the stars of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy as as Tauriel, a “Woodland Elf.” “Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing!” said director Peter Jackson on Facebook, though he added “(No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas)”—Orlando Bloom to those of you a little rusty on who played what.
The Hobbit—which will be split into two profit sources (sorry, films), has been in production since March, with the first film set to hit theaters over the 2012 holiday season. Between the original trilogy’s massive fanbase, and the honor of being the first mainstream film to be shot at 48 frames per second rather than usual 24, some think this film could wind up next year’s Avatar and the next step in 3-D filmmaking. Between this and the birth of her first child last month, we’re going to assume she hardly misses the island.
