An extremely tan Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman go meta in their new The Change-Up promo video. “Do they?” Reynolds says, when told audiences love body-swapping films. “We can just tell them the truth, that body-switching is a pretty f—ing stupid idea, but if they go they’ll laugh their c— off. Yeah?” Okay, but all kidding aside, the movie…is still…about body-swapping? Does. Not. Compute. The tan must have seeped into their brain cavities!
The pair also attempt and fail to appeal to their Asian audience, though do succeed with a subtle nod to Green Lantern. Finally, Reynolds comes through with the tagline they’ve been looking for. “No dumber than a movie about a bunch of talking apes,” he explains, ostensibly referring to their box office competitors for this weekend Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
