Shoe and future enthusiasts the world over are getting their hoverboards in a knot over the revelation that Nike is officially releasing the NikeMag, the self-lacing grey hightop sneaker sported by Marty McFly in Back To The Future 2. But no one is more over the clocktower about it then Doc Brown himself, who makes an appearance in this brand new promotion for the Nike Mag starring SNLs Bill Hader (and, of course, Christopher Lloyd as himself).
“Whoa. He made like a tree… and got out of here.” — My headstone.
So just how much are a pair of these babies going to cost you. Well, let’s put it this way: If you’re one of those people who doesn’t want to raise taxes for the rich, you can probably afford a pair. Every day for 10 days, 150 of the 2011 Nike Mag will go up for auction on Ebay, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson’s Research. Which is the greatest.
So far, the first batch of 150 have been on sale for, oh, about 2 hours. And the prices? A sampling:
From the expected:
To the more expensive:
To the college tuition:
$75,000! And they don’t even self-lace!! BRIGHT SIDE: Free shipping.
Here is a pretty slick promo for the sneaker (if your definition of slick is “trippy Family Circus cartoon,” which mine is):
