We’re feeling a bit awful for Jennifer Lopez. The singer burst into tears onstage at her headlining appearance at Mohegan Sun’s 15th anniversary celebration on Saturday night in Connecticut. J.Lo set the mood by singing an acoustic version of “If You Had My Love” after which she told the crowd, “I’m going to sing you the last song I wrote about love. A lot has changed since then.” What followed was an extremely dramatic rendition of “Until It Beats No More.”
Jennifer sang the song while dancers who looked like her exes — Ben Affleck, Cris Judd and Diddy — danced with J.Lo lookalikes. It was rather obvious that the singer was trying to re-create her romantic journey with all the men in her life — the “J.Lo” figure even wore that infamous Versace slit-to-the-navel gown while with the Diddy dancer, just like Jenny did at the 2000 Grammys. It ended with a final spotlight dance which was almost exactly like what Lopez and Marc Anthony performed on American Idol.
After the song was done, Jennifer said, “I took a trip down memory lane,” but then started to cry and had to take a few moments to get it together. When she was done — but still visibly distressed — a photograph of her twins, Max and Emme, appeared on a screen above her while she said, “There’s love, and then there’s love.” The good news is that J.Lo looked totally hot through the whole thing, as you can see from the photos above, taken at the concert. While the whole drama sounds totally scripted (hello, photo of the kids cued and ready) and primed for emo points, we’d still like to give her the benefit of the doubt. She’s been through a lot, and though we think it was in poor taste re-enacting her relationships onstage, perhaps she didn’t realize how hard it would hit until it was unfurling in front of her. Chin up, Jen.
