Everything We Know About Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries’ Split

|

Did anything else happen in the world yesterday? Kim Kardashian’s divorce announcement was pretty much all we could pay attention to, so you’ll have to fill us in on any other news. The gossip hounds were busy gathering rumors why her marriage to Kris Humphries lasted only 72 days. Here’s a roundup of everything we know, or think we know, so far:

» Kim left with Khloe and Lamar Odom for Australia, where the sisters were already scheduled to promote their handbag line. Kim wasn’t wearing a ring.

» Kris doesn’t seem to have been in on Kim’s decision. He was photographed wearing his ring yesterday, and his statement sounds pretty shocked, “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce,” he said in a statement. “I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents.”

» Kim agonized over the decision to file all weekend long, sources told TMZ.

» Kris reportedly hired a Hollywood publicist over the weekend to help work on his branding.

» Kris and Kim had been fighting over his desire to move to Minnesota eventually. A promo for Kourtney and Kim Take New York shows this stinging exchange: “How am I going to have my career and live in Minnesota?” she asks. And he replies, “Baby, by the time you have kids and they’re in school, no one will care about you.”

» Geography was actually a problem from the get-go: “We have to find our home base,” she told People. “He lives in Miami and Minnesota. I’m in L.A., so we had to find where that home base is going to be. We’re waiting for the lockout to end to see where he’s going to play.”

» Kim can keep the $2 million engagement ring, under California law, TMZ says. And according to their prenup, the couple’s assets were kept completely separate, so there’s nothing else to be divided.

» According to actress and comedian Heather MacDonald, a friend of the Kardashians, Kris was at fault. “I actually thought [Kim] would stay married for like a year to save face,” she told Us. “I actually had respect for her that she did it on the [72nd] day [of marriage]. I do think she likes to be in love, and I do think she loved him the day they married. Being at the wedding, they seemed like a couple totally into each other. But they were only dating for six months before that.”

»The Internet wasn’t too kind to Kim, and her sisters rushed to her defense on Twitter: “Reading some these comments r so hurtful. Im grateful 4our fans who understand & r being respectful. Hate is disgusting. Love is everything,” Khloe tweeted.

» The rest of Kim’s family also spoke to the press. Stepdad Bruce Jenner told TMZ that “Kim’s doing great.”

“My sister is obviously going through a lot and we’re obviously very supportive of whatever decision she makes,” Rob told E! backstage at Dancing With the Stars. “We’re just here as her family just to be with her and be on her side for whatever.”
