Good Morning America‘s Josh Elliott really earned his pay today, when he sat down with Kris Humphries and his mom, Debra Humphries, for Kris’ first interview since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce. As Elliott asked about the split, Kris responded again and again with the words “focused,” “basketball,” “moving forward,” “family” and “my foundation” — just rearranged for each question. And still Elliott pressed on.

To a question about what Humphries hopes to gain by filing for an annulment, he said, “Right now I’m focused on basketball; other things will take care of themselves. It’s a great day for the NBA and the fans, for most people camp starts today at 4 p.m. Hopefully I’ll be on a team soon and get ready to go.”

Um, we’re pretty sure Elliott didn’t ask what time camp starts. Asked whether he thinks the reality show cameras hurt his relationship with Kim, he revealed just a tiny bit more: “I can’t say for sure or not for sure. It’s the only time I’ve been married. I’ve been in front of cameras in the NBA since I was 19 years old.” And then he launched back into, “For me it’s all about moving forward and being excited about the opportunity to give back by working on my foundation, focusing on childhood obesity.”

Humphries’ mom, who was on the show to bake some cookies (and really, it’s shocking that we’d want them to talk about anything other than butter, sugar and chocolate chips), gave a sweetly bland answer too. “For us the important thing is to stay close as family through the ups and downs that come, and it’s our faith in God that carries us through all of these times,” Debra said.

Still, Ellott tried one more time, with the straightforward: “Do you still love her?”

“This guy,” Kris said, laughing. “I’m focused on what I can control.”

Yeah, we guess he is focused.
