Jennie Garth Did Not Want The Divorce That Peter Facinelli Just Filed For

|

In case you were wondering who was first to throw in the towel on Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli‘s marriage, it was…well, it was Peter Facinelli, but it would have been equally sad either way! “I was very resistant,” Garth told People about the couple’s split. “I didn’t want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it.” Unfortunately it seems the Facinelli family’s bi-coastal living arraignment, with Jennie in California and Peter in Vancouver and New York shooting the Twilight series, contributed to the divorce. “He would do everything he could to fly back every weekend,” the What I Like About You star explained. “[But] it took a real toll on our marriage.” But why must a real human couple dissolve so that two fictional vampires can find romance? Whyyyyyyyyy!

Sadly, Peter is also the one getting the ball rolling legally-speaking, filing a divorce petition today in L.A. County Superior Court, just a few weeks after the couple announced their plants to separate. The actor cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce and requested joint physical and legal custody of the couple”s three daughters. Jennie filed a response to the petition, in which she indicates that she will officially change her last name from Facinelli back to Garth. They’re such sweethearts in real life; maybe Jennie and Peter will be equally kind in the court room? We’re being hopelessly naive, aren’t we?
