Tragedy in the Twi-hard world today. Just as Kate Spencer and I are getting all worked up about which San Diego Comic-Con panels we’re going to attend this week and how we’ll manage to meet all our favorite vampires and zombies, we heard the horrible news of a 53-year-old fan known as Gisela G., who died this morning. She had been camping out for the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 panel, which takes place on Thursday afternoon, and after leaving her spot was crossing the street to get back in line when she was struck by a car. According to the San Diego Union-Times, she was in a crosswalk on Harbor St. but crossing against the light when she was hit at 9:20 a.m. PT. She reportedly tried to avoid the oncoming Subaru but tripped into it.

Twilight Examiner’s Amanda Bell has an excellent account of the tweets that flew around the Twilight community immediately after the accident. “From the moment she was hit to when the ambulance arrived and took her, she was completely unconscious,” Twilight Poison blogger Vale told Bell.

Comic-Con organizers had asked fans not to line up for the Twilight panel until setup for the event was complete today, but that did little to stop the Twi-hards. The above photo depicts Gisela G., who tweeted under the handle @mad4hugh, in a green shirt, camping with others. “#sdcc‬ ‪#glamping‬ the first campers waiting for ‪#twilight‬,” @morrowchris tweeted with the pic on Monday afternoon.

Fans are starting a petition to have a moment of silence at Thursday’s panel, while others are memorializing her on Twitter with the hashtag #RIPTwiFanG.
