We so badly want to be looking forward to the Olympics! We want to support our favorite athletes as they all go for the gold. But there are some athletes that are really bumming us out instead — you know, the ones that are getting arrested for doing terrible, stupid and terribly stupid things. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Dez Bryant, is our most recent disappointment. After Dez’s mother made some desperate 911 calls saying that her son was “assaulting” her and that he refused to leave the house, Dez turned himself in to the police yesterday and was booked for assault, family violence, a Class A misdemeanor. At least he turned himself in, but really, who hurts their mother? We will never forgive him for this!
July 15 – Jason Kidd, 10-time NBA All Star point guard, got a DWI in Southampton on Sunday morning after crashing into a telephone pole. Hey Kidd, can you hear us now?
July 14 – Marshawn Lynch, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, was arrested in his hometown for driving under the influence. This isn’t even a first offense! In 2008, he struck a pedestrian outside of a bar and drove off.
July 14 (yep, it was a great night)- Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested in Miami on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. That’s dumb and scary and … OK, we’ll stop that.
July 7 – Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings running back, was arrested at a nightclub and charged with resisting arrest “after he allegedly shoved an off-duty police officer and then resisted at least two other cops.”
June 23 – Detroit Lions cornerback Aaron Berry, received a DUI and shortly after, completely ditched the scene of the crime, earning himself two counts of failure to render aid.
June 10 - New York Giants offensive lineman, David Diehl was charged with driving while intoxicated after they found him behind the wheel of his BMW having struck several parked cars.
June 3 - Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge Sunday after authorities in Oklahoma said he had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system (yeah, he blew a .24 — three times the legal limit of .08).
June 2 - Do you want fries with that DWI? Apparently Vikings fullback Jerome Felton did. In early June, he got a DWI after police responded to a call from McDonald’s at 3 a.m. Felton was waiting in the drive-thru lane intoxicated. Nice one.
May 27 - Detroit Lions lineman Nick Fairley was arrested after a state trooper said he was traveling at 100 mph in his Cadillac Escalade. He was cited for reckless driving, no proof of insurance and open container. He was also arrested a month earlier for possession of marijuana. Wanna tack on anything else to that, Mr. Fairley? We didn’t think so.
Basically, we’re really upset with all you guys! We want you to be role models and heroes to our kids, not a perfect example of what not to do. Please do us all a favor and clean up your act — or at least take a cab to the drive-thru — and leave all that aggression for on-field purposes only!
