This Thanksgiving, We’re Thankful For Mad Men’s Aural Prozac, “Zou Bisou Bisou”

|

This is the time of year where we show thanks and gratitude for all of the things that brought us joy and gave our lives meaning in the past year. So naturally, we chose to highlight this piece of forgotten pop perfection unearthed by Mad Men for its long awaited season-five premiere. In the words of Popeye, we are what we are. When Don Draper’s (Jon Hamm) gorgeous new wife Megan (Jessica Pare) stepped into the spotlight to serenade her husband with the 1960 French minor hit “Zou Bisou Bisou,” our mouths dropped. Not only had we never heard anything so cloyingly sweet, upbeat and peppy in our entire lives, but we were definitely not expecting it on a show that can be as soul-crushingly depressing as Mad Men.

Zou Bisou Bisou is what we're thankful for this Thanksgiving

Yes, it is literally impossible to feel bad while listening to this track. Don’t believe us? Well, to prove it we’ve assembled the top 10 saddest movie scenes of all time in the video above. Mufasa’s death in The Lion King? E.T. returning to his home planet? Noah and Allie’s farewell in The Notebook? Artax’s demise in The Neverending Story?* Trust us, these moments don’t stand a chance again the unfailingly optimistic and effervesent tune that will get lodged into your skull for months. So whenever you’re having a rough day, just remember this song: It’ll cheer you right up! Or at least make you so annoyed that you’ll forget whatever was troubling you…

*Note: Does not work with the opening few minutes of Up.
