We all tuned to Liz & Dick for Lindsay Lohan‘s performance, but there was so much more for us to see: the wigs, the costumes, the acerbic banter, the communal Twitter experience, THE WIGS. Can we please do it all again, but this time with a TV movie that might actually be good? That’s our wish for the New Year now that we read Matt Damon‘s Playboy comments about HBO’s Liberace biopic. “Well, normally I’d say no to nudity, but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace, Scott Thorson, in Behind the Candelabra,” the Bourne Legacy actor explained. “I mean, it’s tastefully done. Steven Soderbergh directed it, and Michael Douglas plays Liberace. But this movie’s not going to be for everyone.” Obviously not! This movie is going to be for us. Didn’t you immediately think of five things to tweet after reading that quote? And if we were tweeting at the same time? Well…is there anything better?
And yes, you read correctly: the movie is directed by the same genius who helmed Magic Mike. It also stars your best friends Rob Lowe, Dan Akroyd and Scott Bakula. God bless and keep Lifetime; they did Lilo a mitzvah. HBO, however, seems to be creating something both fabulously over-the-top, sexually tawdy and artfully done. That is to say, the only kind of program worth watching. “We both have a lot of gay friends, and we were not going to screw this up or bulls–t it,” Damon explained. “It wasn’t the most natural thing in the world to do, though. Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise lounge and start kissing him. And throughout the script, it’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.” Laughed Matt, “Michael was a wonderful kisser. My concerns ended up mattering a lot less once we were filming.” Oh, and did we mention the wigs?
Maaaaaaaaaatt Damon! As of today, the film has yet to nail down an air date. Whenever it is, we can make nachos and talk. We already have so many wig-pinions!
