Getting paid to mine your own life for humiliating moments is pretty much our dream job, so it’s only natural we pay Lena Dunham homage as one of the 12 Celebs Who Dominated 2012. Remember when Girls premiered on HBO on April 15 of this year and the internet exploded? Remember how that happened after Dunham had already made her first feature film Tiny Furniture in 2010? Man, we could write 5,000 about Lena’s awesomely brave Girls nude scenes or that time Hannah flies face-first off Adam’s bike, but chances are you’ve already seen them. If you haven’t…well, where were you this year?
Dominating Moment: It’s a toss up. Everyone could not stop talking about Lena when Girls premiered…or when she made $3.7 million for her book proposal. Those Golden Globe noms for “Best Television Series- Comedy or Musical” and “Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy” were probably an important sign of Lena’s dominance. Or those Emmy noms…
Dominating On Twitter: If you don’t follow Lena on Twitter, you’re missing out. As her 502,294 followers know, Dunham is consistently producing 140-character gems. For example, “Tis the season (to sign your emails “happy holidaze” then wonder what’s happening to you and if longterm stress has rotted your brain.”
Best Appearances: We probably shouldn’t love this as much as we do, but Lena Dunham could not stay out of Twitter trouble this year. Remember when she had to apologize to Canada for joking about dressing as the victim of Canadian serial killers for Halloween? A woman after our own hearts. We also enjoyed her pro-Obama spot earlier this fall (Everyone’s first time should be special!), and love that she got a cameo in Judd Apatow’s This Is 40.
What We Expect From Her In 2013: The second season of Girls premieres January 13, baby! Oh, and she’ll probably be writing her book Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned for millions upon millions of dollars.
We’d also like to give Lena a shout-out for her truly individual style. But you already knew about that too, right?
