Last week wasn’t the best for Justin Bieber: After a paparazzo was killed trying to capture photos of a driver he thought was Bieber, photos of the 18-year-old smoking a blunt made their way to TMZ. So it was a pretty good time for the singer and his PR team to turn up the charm and hype some positive stories. First up, he sent out a tweet on Saturday morning that seemed to be an apology for his alleged pot-smoking.
And then he went and visited a 7-year-old fan with leukemia who was unable to attend his Salt Lake City show that night because she was in the hospital. Biebs has been visiting cancer patients for years now, but you’ve got to admit this was a pretty good chance for him to remind everyone that for all his partying, he’s a good kid too. “Look at this bundle of joy. I love her,” read the caption of his Instagram pic of the visit.
On Sunday he posted a couple of photos of the most Canadian thing ever: a tattoo in honor of the hockey team his grandfather used to take him to see, the Stratford Cullitons. So again, just because he lights one up like basically every other 18-year-old you know, he’s got mad respect for his family (and sports teams that co-opt Native American imagery for their mascots). This is both brilliant PR, and exceptionally normal behavior. Good job, Team Justin!
