“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement,” Spears said in a statement. “I’ll always adore him and we will remain great friends.”
According to TMZ, the former couple postponed the announcement until Trawick was taken off the conservatorship — which we always thought was the most awkward, weirdly paternal part of their relationship. The two began dating in 2009 and got engaged a little over a year ago, in December 2011.
“As this chapter ends for us a new one begins,” Trawick said in the statement. “I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever.”
What a week for Britney — and you can either assume it’s really sad or liberating for the 31-year-old. On Friday, she confirmed that she’s changing agencies (from Trawick’s William Morris to CAA) and quit The X Factor in order to record a new album.
“I can’t wait to get back out there and do what I love most,” she said, and now that sounds like she was talking about her love life as much as her return to music. And we can’t wait to see where all this change leads her next!
