Which ‘SNL’ Alum Makes the Most at the Box Office?

-Additional research by Christopher Rosa

As we’re watching VH1 Classic’s “SNL Rewind: 2015-1975 Mega Marathon,” we can’t help but wonder about the cast members’ uneven movie careers. For instance, Tina Fey is one of the most famous and beloved SNL cast members of all time. However, her 2013 film Admission only made $6.5 million at the box office in its opening weekend. So, it made us wonder, how well has every single Saturday Night Live cast member of all-time —yes, all 142 of them!— performed in terms of box office draw? And the answers are incredibly surprising.

We went through the Box Office Mojo and IMDB pages of every Saturday Night Live cast member since the show began in 1975, found out how many movies each starred or had supporting roles in —voiceover roles count, too!— and tallied the U.S. box office amounts these films accumulated. Remember: Foreign box office, video and rental sales and bit parts and cameos don’t count—and neither does being a comedy legend.

Meaning, that someone like Chris Farley, whose films exploded on VHS (and whose epic career was cut short by his untimely death) fared far more poorly than someone like Brian Doyle-Murray, who’s built a career on character work and being part of the ensemble of popular box office hits.

So without further ado, VH1 presents the definitive SNL Cast Members All-Time Box Office Rankings (as of today—Friday, February 7, 2014).
