Tomorrow Doctor Who fans worldwide will be huddled in front of their television screens and shoddy livestream connections to watch an unprecedented simulcast of the show’s 50th Anniversary Special: The Day Of The Doctor. In honor of the event, we’re looking back (and in a few cases, forward) at the hottest time travelers of all time. Now, we’ve already ranked the hottest Doctor Who companions (so, no Jack Harkness or Amy Pond on this list, boys and girls), but this time we’re looking at mad scientists, romantic heroes, and more than one Time Lord who goes by the name of “Doctor.”
When Doctor Who first premiered on the BBC 50 years ago, the character was envisioned as a wizened and eccentric grandfather figure. He even traveled with his granddaughter, Susan. While many of the later incarnations were dishes in their own rights (*cough* Peter Davidson & Paul McGann *cough*), the Doctor didn’t really saunter onscreen as a sex symbol until the show’s reboot in 2005. Since then, the show’s fans have been as ardently obsessed with the show’s travels in space and time as they have been with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith as romantic figures.
However, the Doctor isn’t the only strapping time traveler to catch our eye. The Harry Potter franchise made everyone’s favorite witch, Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), a time traveler in its third installment, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and the Terminator series finally let Sarah Connor (Lena Headey) get in on the time period hopping action in the television series, The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
The 20 time travelers on our list are so charming, flirtatious and hot that we would probably travel with them anywhere–even if we weren’t traveling in time.
The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special airs tomorrow, November 23, on BBC America at 2:50PM ET and repeats at 7PM ET.
