Mean Girls, Baby Mamas + Golden Globes: Tina Fey And Amy Poehler’s Greatest Hits

Goddesses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, which means for the second year in a row, Hollywood’s annual fĂȘte will be a lot less dependent on alcohol for its laughs. (We still encourage you to drink — responsibly! — if you want to, but it’s refreshing to know you don’t have to get housed just to find things chuckle-worthy.) Coming up with appropriately witty banter and executing timely sketches to a Tinsletown crowd looking for gold has become their thing following last year’s success. And their ability to laugh at not only those in the audience, but themselves, is what we love most.

These two have been tight since meeting at Chicago’s Second City, and staples in our pop culture purview for nearly the last 15 years. They’re so much more than Weekend Update co-anchors on Saturday Night Live or embarrassing adults to the world of North Shore’s elite in Mean Girls. With their list of collaborations growing longer by the second, the time has come to take a trip through the most adorable and hilarious moments from their very public friendship.

To help prepare for Sunday’s big show, take a look at some of Tina and Amy’s greatest hits.

Tina joined the SNL writing staff in 1998 while Amy joined the cast 2001. The two would go on to collaborate on numerous memorable sketches over the years, including “Mom Jeans,” “MTV 4″ and Weekend Update (more on that below). They also proved that you don’t have to be a full-time SNL employee to drop into a sketch or cold open. Amy and Tina made the 2008 presidential election a lot more tolerable, thanks to their knack for impersonations spanning the likes of Katie Couric, Hillary Clinton and–you betcha–Sarah Palin. In the cold open below, the two discuss the issue of sexism on the campaign trail, and the world gets its first look at Tina as the Alaska Governor.
