As Mean Girls turns ten years old, everyone is looking back on the teen film that turned Lindsay Lohan into a star and cemented Tina Fey as a multi-faceted entertainer. Coming out in 2004, it found its place among millennials who either identified with the comedic wit of former Saturday Night Live stars, Fey, Amy Poehler and Tim Meadows, and the fresh-faced appearance of Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lachey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried. While Tina Fey addressed rumors of taking the film to the stage, the creators of G.B.F. made up their own. The gay teen comedy saw Caprice, the film’s drama queen, performing a “mostly plagiarized musical mashup” of the film.

Seven years following the success of the film, 505 Publishers produced a Mean Girls-branded video game for Nintendo DS. The Puzzle Quest rip off had players “combine similarly coloured jewels, shoes and lipstick. Chain combinations together and you can unleash ‘rumours, pranks and put-downs.’”
