I’ll Have Another was wearing the roses after Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, but we all know he wasn’t the only star of the event, which has become as much about watching the attendees as it is about the horses. As in years past, celebs put on their derby best to enjoy a day of mint juleps and betting. Although there was little sun in the sky, the folks in Churchill Downs were still seen wearing everything from traditional Kentucky Derby hats to some more elaborate and daring headwear. Coco, Ginnifer Goodwin, Cyndi Lauper, Star Jones, Mary J. Blige and Miranda Lambert were among the ladies showing off straw, feathers, flowers and bows on their heads. Even a few male celebs, like Ashton Kutcher, Kellan Lutz and Joey Fatone, joined in on all the hat fun. Here’s a look at the 20 best celebrity hats at this year’s Kentucky Derby.
At this weekend’s Kentucky Derby, the competition isn’t only on the track. Attendees are famous for wearing their biggest, brightest, and boldest hats in an effort to shield themselves from the sun — who are we kidding? — to stand out in the crowd of Churchill Downs. And a lot of those fabulous hats are on the heads of some of our favorite celebrities. From European fascinators to traditional straw hats, stars like Kim Kardashian and Paula Patton embraced the chance to embody true Southern elegance. Even Joey Fatone joined in on some fashion fun by sporting a feathered hat when he attended the Kentucky Derby in 2010. Before we sit down and tune in to the 138th Kentucky Derby race, let’s take a look at the 30 most awesome hats we’ve seen in recent years.
Grab your stereotypical sombrero everybody, it’s Cinco de Mayo! In the American tradition of commercializing obscure holidays that have very little to do with their actual countries of origin, today’s festivities must include a street dance with a mariachi band, many tequila shots and some probably inauthentic Mexican food. How else to commemorate a minor victory over French invaders? Well, we’d also like to celebrate some of the other things our neighbors south of the border have given to the world, say for instance, a number of Hollywood’s hottest. Talented stars like Eva Longoria, Demi Lovato, and Mario Lopez are just a few of our favorite Mexican stars. While not all listed celebs are full-blood Mexican — and some on this list may surprise you — we like to think they all have a healthy dose of Latino pride. Take a break from your margarita blender and toast our 20 favorite celebs with Mexican roots. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
The Rock has been cooking up quite the career — make that careers — for the past 15 years. We can smell all that success over here. From WWE King to big screen bully, Dwayne Johnson has become so much more than “The Rock.” Although we can’t help but remember trying to lift our eyebrows just like he did in the ring. Since his days as a champion college football player, Dwayne has maintained a perfect physique, one we’ve gotten to see him show off outside of the ring in his early film projects, like The Mummy Returns, family fare like Tooth Fairy and soon enough in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Along with actor and world heavyweight champion, Johnson added author to his resume in 2002 with his New York Times best-selling autobiography, The Rock Says…, co-written with Joe Layden. To wish The Rock a big happy birthday, we’re celebrating his big 4-0 with a look through his best years. And don’t forget to vote for him in our Summer Movies Hottest Heroes poll!
After 18 cycles, Tyra Bank’s America’s Next Top Model is still going strong. But it appears that she doesn’t think co-stars J. Alexander, Jay Manuel, and Nigel Barker — who have been on since ANTM began in 2003 — are necessary to the show’s staying power. Yesterday, they were told their contracts would not be renewed for the 19th season, according to the New York Post.
Well, even if Tyra doesn’t, we sure will miss these three. J. Alexander was the fabulous runway diva coach extraordinaire who helped the contestants perfect their walk on the runway while showing off his own lovely legs. For a few seasons, Miss J also held a spot at panel, where he often stole the show with some outlandish getups, until he was replaced by Andre Leon Talley in 2010. Jay Manuel served as the creative director on all photo shoots and never hesitated to offer his opinions while never mussing his perfectly coiffed, silver ‘do. And they’re going to need some serious male eye candy to replace “noted fashion photographer” Nigel Barker. Just who will tell the girls like it is while turning their knees to jelly with a single glare?
Let’s look back at all the ways we’ll miss this fashionable trio and then vote on which one you’ll miss the most.
Now, it’s not like we’re advocating drug use here, folks. We’re just going to celebrate 4/20 the best way we know how, by looking at all our favorite famous people, including Kristen Stewart, Rihanna and Rupert Grint with the infamous Ms. Mary Jane.
The little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, or … the little Gucci dress? It must be amazing to be Posh. With a slamming figure, four adorable rugrats, a successful designing career and drop-dead gorg husband David Beckham, Victoria Beckham has a whole lot to be happy about. Victoria always possessed an air of beautiful richness, ever since her Spice Girls days. And since then, Victoria has become an author, model, solo artist, and most recognizably a fashion icon, for others’ designs as well as her own. Posh’s look has morphed over the years — and it’s made others morph with her, see her trend-setting short haircut in 2007 — but she’s always maintained a classic, chic appearance. And she’s still killing it, most recently appearing on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar China. To celebrate Victoria’s 38th birthday today, let’s take a look at how posh she’s been through the years:
Emma Watson turns 22 today, but we still can’t help but want to pinch those grown women cheeks. The Harry Potter starlet exudes total adorableness. From her sleek cut to her polished threads, Emma is that pretty girl you always hated because you secretly wanted to be just like her. Can we blame all those screaming girls gushing tears when they meet her? Although Emma’s days of playing the smart and fearless Hermione have sadly come to an end, Emma’s career is still booming. The Brown University undergrad played the cute wardrobe assistant Lucy in My Week With Marilyn, a critically acclaimed film nominated for two Oscars. She’s got a lead in the much-anticipated Perks of Being a Wallflower, out in September. And the English beauty is currently switching gears to play bad-ass stick-up kid in The Bling Ring, scheduled to release in 2013. No matter the different roles Emma takes, she will always be that darling little lady we first met on the big screen in 2001. Let’s all wish Emma a big happy birthday with her 22 most adorable looks.
Oooweee. It’s time to crack a window and grab a tall glass of water; you’ll need that cool spring breeze right now. Some of the hottest women to ever grace the Victoria’s Secret runway (shoot to ever walk the Earth) were born in April, making for a very different kind of heatwave than the kind we experience in July.
Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio turned 31 on April 11, and has more to celebrate than her own birthday this year. The original spokeswoman for PINK, who walked the runway just three months after giving birth to her daughter Anja, is expecting her second child with Jamie Mazur sometime this year.
Model-turned-actress Brooklyn Decker has been quite the busy lady. The 5’9″ blonde, who appeared alongside Adam Sandler in last year’s Just Go With It, is spending her 25th birthday today (April 12) while traipsing the globe to promote her latest flick, Battleship.
Brit beauty Rosie Huntington-Whiteley went from strutting around in her undies for Victoria’s Secret and Burberry to fleeing evil aliens in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Rosie turns 24 on April 18, and you can pay homage to her bday by perusing her pics in Vogue Brazil’s April issue.
Last but certainly not least in the looks department is Orlando Bloom’s smoking wife Miranda Kerr. The Aussie model and mum of 1-year-old Flynn acquired quite some fame being the first Australian model to become a Victoria’s Secret angel. We can’t say we’re surprised she was chosen as the first. Miranda turns 29 on the 20th.
In the spirit of a catwalk showdown, we’re putting these heavenly creatures in direct competition with each other. We’re asking you to select which April birthday girl is hottest. Are you up for this decision? Here’s a gallery of Alessandra, Brooklyn, Rosie and Miranda to make your choice a little easier (actually, probably not):
Kristen Stewart beats to her own funky fashion drum. And we’re willing to bet that drum has the Converse logo on it. She consistently sports dark shades, a knotted tee, and a pair of grungy kicks — when she’s not legging it up in mini dresses at her many premieres. The erstwhile Bella Cullen is most definitely doing her thing onscreen too. With two expected blockbusters due out this year, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and Snow White and the Huntsman, and the buzzed-about On the Road, Robert Pattinson better be planning some extra special celebrations for his lady.
Today, we thought we’d honor one specific side of Kristen’s real-life and onscreen persona. Since her Panic Room days, Kristen has landed a number of tough-girl roles, and we already named her one of our 15 favorite current female actress stars. And when she’s not in a movie, she’s being rebellious with defiant poses in magazine spreads, giving mysterious answers in interviews, and shooting dark looks at the paparazzi. So, as Kristen celebrates her 22nd birthday today, we’ll be celebrating her 22 most bad-ass looks.
