5 Stars Who Are Having The Best Awards Season Ever

awards seasons lead

Each year, the awards season means certain stars get an opportunity to shine as they make the rounds on red carpets, picking up trophies and working their way toward that Oscar. Some celebs do it better than others. See last year when Jennifer Lawrence shined from the moment she “beat Meryl” at the Golden Globes to tripping on her way to picking up her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway couldn’t muster the same spirit. Speech after speech, fans felt she was phoning it in. Luckily, the stars on this list, including Lupita Nyong’o, Matthew McConaughey and Emma Thompson, fall in line J-Law.

From Twister To Deep Impact: 15 Greatest Natural Disaster Flicks

View Photo Gallery

Opening this weekend is the volcano epic, Pompeii, about the doomed Italian city. The film gives the story the Hollywood treatment with three-dimensional fire balls, earthquakes and Kit Harington‘s abs (if only we could touch those, but we digress). The film joins a long history of disaster films, in particular, natural disaster films. These are the ones that are not man-made (The Towering Inferno), don’t involve any sort of alien invasion (Cloverfield, The Andromeda Strain) or involve Godzilla. Instead, Mother Nature rears her nasty side and reminds humans who actually runs the Earth.

Claire Underwood’s Most Vicious Quotes From House Of Cards

View Photo Gallery

On Friday, Netflix released the much-anticipated second season of House of Cards. The show, which was a surprise hit of last spring, won fans over thanks to the superb acting by Kevin Spacey (as Frank Underwood) and his onscreen wife Robin Wright (as Claire Underwood). While Frank is at the center of the show’s Shakespearean tale of power and greed, it’s Claire who steals the spotlight as a modern day Lady Macbeth. Her character, while maintaining a beautifully icy presence, knows how to destroy her enemies and slice to the core of someone’s emotions. “You don’t want to make an enemy out of me,” Claire threatens in season 2. No, no we do not.

15 Years Later: She’s All That Cast Remembers That Epic Prom Scene

MSDSHAL EC004
The year was 1999, and it felt like anything could happen: Following a string of successful teen films in 1998, the teen era was officially back. To help kick things off in the final year before the Millennium was She’s All That, a sleeper hit that featured an ensemble cast, including Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. The film told the story of a girl with a ponytail, Laney (Cook), who became the subject of a bet that Zack’s (Prinze Jr.) scheme to turn any girl into prom queen. The success of She’s All That introduced fans to a pre-Fast & The Furious Paul Walker, made Prinze the most desirable young man in Hollywood, and thanks to the iconic scene of Cook walking down the stairs in a little red dress, everyone was singing Sixpence None The Richer‘s “Kiss Me.”

On the 15th anniversary of the film’s release, Dulé Hill, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe and Clea DuVall share memories from the set, dancing at prom and working with Walker. Read more…

Emma Thompson’s Greatest Awards Season Moments

emmaheader

If there is one standout among this year’s awards season, it’s Emma Thompson. The actress has been a total delight, owning her free spirit. While some celebrities crash and burn by the time they walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards (ahem, Anne Hathaway), Thompson is showing no signs of slowing down. Sadly for fans, she didn’t pick up an Oscar nomination this year for her role in Saving Mr. Banks, but that hasn’t stopped us from enjoying her presence at every other awards program. From martinis and heel tossing at the Golden Globes to photo-bombing at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Thompson has been a constant delight.

View Photo Gallery

If there’s one network that has become a huge guilty pleasure, it’s Lifetime. The network continues to make movie safter movies that are must-see events. This weekend is no different with Christina Ricci starring in Lifetime’s version of Lizzie Borden, a woman accused and acquitted of the ax murders of her father and stepmother. Lizzie Borden Took an Ax has all the elements that make for a good Lifetime flick: drama, murder, brooding men, inappropriate relationships, mystery and intrigue. That’s what makes it such a perfect celebrity biopic. Like Anna Nicole Smith (Anna Nicole) and Elizabeth Taylor (Liz & Dick) before her, Lizzie joins a long list of celebs who got the Lifetime treatment. However, there are so many more that we want made!

Oscar Nominee Lupita Nyong’o’s Most Adorable Awards Show Instagram Pics

View Photo Gallery

Congrats to Lupita Nyong’o on picking up her first (of what we hope is many to come) Oscar nomination for her role in 12 Years a Slave. The actress has enjoyed a big few months since the movie’s release thanks to a number of honors and accolades for her heart wrenching performance as a tortured and brutalized slave. While she commands a serious presence on screen, her life off has been anything but. A peek inside her Instagram account shows the adorable side of Nyong’o as she goes from awards show to awards show, picking up trophies and new celebrity besties along the way. Oh, hugging Lena Dunham? Check! Selfies with Jared Leto? Mark it off the list.

We can’t wait to see what she’ll post at future shows and who will make her Oscars Hug Checklist. We hope it includes fellow nominees Jonah Hill and Jennifer Lawrence.

After Jack Ryan: Here Are The Film Franchises We Really Want To See Rebooted

View Photo Gallery

Every couple of years, when Hollywood runs out of fresh ideas it returns to the well of franchises that have proved to be hits. However, a few are in serious updating and, with the main stars aging, a fresh crop of actors to take over the series. However, we’re not suggesting that all of them follow the Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit route and star from point zero. That’s been done before, multiple times (see: Batman, Superman).
