It was reported earlier this week that Depp and Jerry Seinfeld were both going to appear on Gervais’ show Life’s Too Short, but on his blog, Gervais clarified, “The Depp bit is true, the Seinfeld bit isn’t.” Gervais successfully wooed stars like Kate Winslet, Patrick Stewart and David Bowie to appear on his old show, Extras, so it’s not a surprise that Depp agreed to appear, and we’re thrilled he got over his aversion to television to do so. The series will also air on HBO in the US.
If you DVR’d American Idol last night and haven’t watched yet, a big spoiler alert to you all – you may not want to read on. Last night’s Idol was easily the most entertaining episode in recent years. A Steven Tyler birthday celebration! A wrestling throwdown in the (haunted!) Idol mansion, a special appearance by Hulk Hogan, and a hugely emotional finale. Come ON! So good. For the past two weeks, early favorite Casey Abrams hasn’t been performing as well as America liked though, with a terrifying version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” two weeks ago and a slick-haired rendition of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” on Wednesday.
America must’ve missed his upright bass or something because they voted Casey, who is one of the clear front-runners, to the very bottom last night and he had to sing for the judges. In case you missed it, Casey didn’t get more than fifteen seconds into his song when the judges dramatically stopped him and told him he was saved, causing a chain reaction of tears, screams, a pasty and shaking Casey on the verge of near-collapse (he does have health issues, we were worried for a sec), and then an awkward Casey headbutt into Ryan Seacrest‘s crotch. It was amazing. But with only one judges’ save per season, should they have used it on him? We’re glad they did, but what do you think, should they have saved it in case someone like James Durbin or Pia Toscano needed it?
Look, we’re not huge fans of Tiger Woods. He’s a dog, in our opinion, and his personal indiscretions, while wildly overexposed in the media, were certainly not something to ignore. But the thing is, while the guy majorly f—d up his family life and his marriage to Elin Nordegren (who has proven to be an awesome, strong , take no-s— lady) he didn’t, y’know, go all Chris Brown and beat her up. He did the responsible thing in what was a terrible situation: He issued a heartfelt apology and then got divorced so he could dick around, free of any additional, familial consequence. So no, we don’t pity him, but we just saw the headline “Tiger Woods’ Girlfriend Made Crayon Drawings For Him As A Child” and felt really dirty and even a little bad for Woods. Because even though the guy used his fame for sex, this just makes him seem creepy.
Woods has been quietly dating Alyse Lahti Johnston, a 22-year-old student, since January, and has known Johnston since she was a kid because her step-father works at IMG, the agency that represents Woods. While there is a 13-year gap between the two, and they met when Johnston was a child, is it really necessary to mention that she made him crayon drawings? Unless we found out that said drawings were still prominently on display in Woods’ home, or Johnston is still making crayon drawings for him, this is just what kids do. They make stuff and give it to people. No, they don’t usually end up dating the guy who works with their dad, but still. We feel gross even defending Woods here, but we think that’s just because when you compare him to Brown or, say, Charlie Sheen, his indiscretions seem positively innocent. It’s possible that once a cheater, always a cheater, and he may never change or be a “good” guy, but we don’t need to make him sound predatory while we’re at it.
The newest Rachel Zoe project is here!Zoe and husband Rodger Berman just announced that babySkyler Morrison Berman was born this week. In a statement, they revealed the news in total Zoe fashion, saying “Mom and Dad ‘LITERALLY’ could not be happier or more in love with their son!” Zoe reportedly went into labor on Tuesday, so for two long days we’ve been waiting for her baby to emerge, and we’re so happy for the new parents.
Whoopi Goldberg has never been shy about her past drug use, but TMZ has unearthed a recording of Goldberg from 1992 admitting that she smoked a “wonderful joint” just before the Oscar ceremony where she won for Best Supporting Actress in 1991 for Ghost.
During a recording session for he 1992 film The Pagemaster, Whoopi talked about how she smoked her own homegrown weed just before heading to the ceremony. “Honey, when he said my name and I popped up, I though ‘Oh, f—!” Whoopi explained. While Whoopi’s acceptance speech didn’t seem all that unusual, it was obvious to at least one person that she has been under the influence. “My mother called me and said ‘You smoked, didn’t you? Your eyes were just glistening.'” Whoopi said. The full recording and Whoopi’s acceptance speech are over on TMZ. We’re sure Elisabeth Hasselbeck is all out of sorts over this today.
The new trailer for the much-anticipated J.J. Abrams film Super 8 is out and in true J.J. Abrams style, it’s full of action and gives almost nothing away. An even more ambiguous trailer was shown during the Superbowl, but in this new one, there’s so much more going on.
We were fortunate enough to attend a screening of a quick, 22-minute sneak peek of the film last night which only served to taunt us even more because we still have so many unanswered questions about the film. We’d go into more detail, but J.J. made us pinky swear that we wouldn’t divulge any secrets. We did learn some pretty cool stuff about the film, which is a collaboration between Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg, like the fact that when Abrams was 16, he and fellow filmmaker Matt Reeves were actually hired to repair Spielberg’s old 8mm home movies after Spielberg’s office read that the teenage Abrams participated in—what else?—a Super 8 film festival. Hearing about the context of their relationship makes total sense, and their collaboration only makes us more excited to see the film. It’s just a bummer that we’re going to have to wait until June 10th to figure out what the hell is going on in this movie.
de la Huerta was reportedly partying at the Standard Hotel in New York City on Sunday when she and Samantha Swetra, star of MTV’s The City started to argue. Allegedly, Swetra remarked about de la Huerta’s level of intoxication after de la Huerta accidentally fell down and exposed herself, reports the Daily News. That prompted de la Huerta to throw a glass and punch Swetra in the face. The glass cut Swetra, and in a bizarre turn, she was tended to by Lindsay Lohan who was there hanging out with her. (Oh, Lindsay. Will you ever not be hanging out at bars, even after all you’ve been through?) Swetra filed charges against de la Huerta, who was arrested last night. de la Huerta certainly does love to party, as evidenced in our gallery below of some of her choicest “rough night” photos, unfortunately in this case, she just partied a little too hard.
Rachel Zoe is in labor with her first child at the moment! Zoe reportedly checked into Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles yesterday. According to one report, Zoe has already given birth to a baby boy but we’re still on high alert because no one else has confirmed the news. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear for sure.
Rebecca Black isn’t going away any time soon, as evidenced by the fact that she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night and performed her song “Friday” to an audience that sang along with her. Black also talked about the fact that even though there are a lot of haters in the form of cruel, anonymous internet commenters, she’s received quite a bit of support and recognition from celebrities.
“Ryan Seacrest has been amazing through this whole thing,” Black told Leno, and she says Simon Cowell “wants to meet me, that’s so cool!” She also says celebs like Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Willow Smith and Cody Simpson have reached out to her via Twitter to offer her support too. And as for all the money she’s raking in from YouTube hits and iTunes sales? She plans to donate it all to her school and to Japan’s relief efforts. So at least something positive will come from all this! Check out the video which features her interview and performance above.
Chris Brown wants so much for us to forget about his violent outburst against Rihanna that he’s willing to create another violent outburst to overshadow it. That’s some dedication. Brown flew off the handle this morning after an interview on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts after Roberts asked Brown more questions about Rihanna than Brown cared for, and ended up smashing a window at the television studio. Now, Roberts is claiming that she ran all Rihanna-related questions past Brown before she sat down with him. A representative from ABC News defended Roberts‘ line of questioning as well, saying in a statement “As always, we ask questions that are relevant and newsworthy, and that’s what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown.”
Brown, who is currently still on probation as a result of his 2009 altercation with Rihanna, might face charges and even jail time for violating his probation as a result of his behavior today. In an audiotape obtained by TMZ, an ABC staffer was recorded as saying she called police to check on the window Brown allegedly smashed with a chair during his rampage. “If he is still on probation and charged with a criminal offense,” criminal defense attorney Thomas Kenniff told Fox News, “the violation would spell jail time.” Guess we’ll wait and see if charges are pressed to find out what Brown’s fate is. So much for Brown being a model probationer, which is what a judge called him in November.
