Oh, these Hollywood celebutantes, with their lack of jobs and their borrowed jewelry. When will they learn? Paris Hilton has found herself in some hot water these days, and it’s due to a very Lohan-like situation where she “borrowed” some jewelry and “forgot” to return it.
Hilton is being sued by Damiani for not returning $60,000 worth of jewelry that was on loan to her. The story isn’t quite as simple as Lohan’s necklace situation, however. Daimani loaned Hilton the flashy gems in 2007, with the promise that Hilton would keep them in a vault or safe when she wasn’t wearing them out in public. Alas, Hilton merely stashed them in her closet, and they were stolen from her home in late 2009. They were later recovered by police, but Hilton has still not returned the jewels to Daimani, and the company wants them back. The lawsuit reads “On December 18, 2009, Ms. Hilton left the front door to her mansion unlocked. Like the front door, Ms. Hilton also left the safe unlocked that was supposed to be used to secure the loaned Damiani jewellery. …Despite having recovered Damiani’s jewellery, [Hilton has] failed to return all of the jewellery to Damiani as required by the Agreements.” Oh, girl. Just give the stuff back, you can afford to buy yourself some new jewels. Besides, those ones are so 2007.
It seems … interesting … that an actress fresh off an Academy Award win for a dark, disturbing drama would immediately jump into two stoner comedies, but Natalie Portman is doing just that. Not only is she starring in Your Highness, which opens this week, but she’s also producing and starring in a female buddy comedy called Best Buds, the name of which about says it all. Portman admits that the doobie-ous (get it?) subject matter of these two films is something she has some real life experience with.
She tells Entertainment Weekly, “I love stoner comedies. I smoked weed in college, but I haven’t smoked in years.” We sort of love Portman’s honesty—first she divulged a little too much about her sex life in her Golden Globe acceptance speech, and now this. Portman, who is pregnant, added that she’s changed and doesn’t do that sort of thing anymore. “I’m too old,” she said.
“I wish I was that cool, but I’m like an old lady now. I’m in bed by 10 p.m. I can’t do that anymore.” Us too, Natalie. Us too.
Taylor Swift has certainly dated more guys in her young twenty one years than we ever did at that age. Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal and Chord Overstreet are all members of the Swift Hall of Fame, and now Garrett Hedlund is joining them. Swift and Hedlund went on a date on April 1 in Nashville, according to Us Weekly, and we think that the country songstress and the Country Strong star make a perfect pair.
A source explains that the two, who both seem to have a passion for country music, have “been emailing for a while,” and it was Swift’s idea to go on a date. They reportedly had dinner and called it an early night. The source also says “She has actually spent time getting to know Garrett,” so that’s nice — hopefully that means the relationship will last a while. And if not, she’ll probably use this as material for her music. Win-win?
Well we can’t have this! UK website The Mirror is reporting that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are “on a break” at the moment. An “inside source” claims that the pair, who haven’t been attending many public events together recently, not like they did all that much in the first place, are taking time off and are just friends at the moment.
Says the source “Things have been a bit rocky for a while. They both have hectic work schedules, Rob in particular at the moment, and their phone calls were getting fewer and further between. They started to only see each other on set and began to drift apart until a general apathy developed. The excuses why they couldn’t meet up basically got weaker and weaker, and Rob figured they should officially cool things off and have some time to figure out what they each want.” While it’s true that the pair have been separated recently because Pattinson is busy promoting Water For Elephants, they’ve also been spotted on a movie date night where they were bombarded by fans, and were out enjoying dinner in Vancouver a few weeks ago. And before we start pouring one out for their relationship, we’d also like to point out that a different source at the studio told Celebuzz that Robsten is not on a break, saying “This is nothing new, they have been apart many times before.”
We’re gonna follow The Secret here and just keep thinking positive thoughts. If it takes all the brain power we have, we can WILL them to stay together forever.
Lindsay Lohan is continuing her quest to play a tragic Hollywood figure, since she lost the role of Linda Lovelace as a result of her legal troubles. It’s now being reported that Lohan was offered the role of Sharon Tate in an upcoming Charles Manson biopic called Eyes Of A Dreamer. Tate, who was married to Roman Polanski, was brutally murdered in 1969 by members of the Manson family, and this new film plans to show incredibly graphic portrayals of the Manson murders.
Photographer Tyler Shields, who you may remember from such work as Pervy Kristin Cavallari Photo Shoot and Naughty Glee Photo Shoot, is going to play Manson as well as direct the film. Shields says that he has discussed the film with Lohan and says “She asked me about [Eyes] … And I said, ‘Oh you should be Sharon Tate.’ And she was like, ‘That would be amazing.’” Her participation just depends on whether or not she’s incarcerated or not at the time of shooting. Lohan has a court date at the end of April which will determine whether or not she’ll go to jail over the theft of a necklace.
Nooo! In News We Hate today, New York magazine reports that both Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey plan to leave 30 Rock next year, effectively shutting down the show. Though Fey’s reps wouldn’t confirm the news, Baldwin told the magazine “I will tell you one thing, and that is our show next year is our last year of the show.” He continued, “Our contracts are expired [in 2012], and Tina is gonna have a big career directing films and writing. She’s going to be the next Elaine May. She’ll be great.”
Well yes, we all know that Tina Fey will be great no matter what she does, but please, don’t take our 30 Rock away! That just means there will be a gaping hole in the Thursday night lineup that’s destined to be filled with more super-sized episodes of Outsourced. Shudder.
Mariah Carey can add herself to the list we created of celebrity baby bump flaunters. The pop diva appears on this week’s issue of Life & Style magazine covering one set of twins while exposing another. Carey says of her photo shoot, “I was feeling very vulnerable about taking pictures at all right now, but then I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience. My ultimate goal was to share this incredibly personal moment with my true fans.” Carey was photographed the night after she was released from the hospital with contractions—that’s a pretty dedicated, hardcore desire to share this with her fans! Carey is reportedly due to give birth to a boy and a girl at the end of April.
It’s not really an exaggeration to say hearing the news of Kurt Cobain‘s death is the Generation X version of “Where were you when John F. Kennedy was shot?” Personally, I was in my living room watching MTV like I did every day after school my sophomore year of high school and watched Kurt Loder deliver the news, presumably right as it was released to the public. As a fifteen-year-old who was obsessed with alternative music, corduroy, and used cardigans, I was Cobain’s demographic and the news stung.
Today marks the seventeenth (!) anniversary of Cobain’s death and in his honor, we dug up some clips from the week that he passed away. It’s some serious MTV nostalgia, and it still gives us chills to watch. In the clip above, watch as Loder delivers the shocking news of Cobain’s death. After the jump you can watch additional extended footage from MTV News (God, I miss the Week In Rock) with reaction from Henry Rollins, a clip of Courtney Love tearfully reading portions of Cobain’s suicide note to his fans, and the NBC Nightly News report from the night of his death.
Two non-profit charities founded by Madonna are having a rough week. Raising Malawi, a charity based in the country where Madonna adopted two of her children, was supposed to provide an academy for girls in the impoverished country, but plans for the school fell apart after accusations that its board mismanaged donated funds. Tens of millions of dollars worth of mismanaged funds. In addition, a lawsuit was filed against Madonna last week by former employees of the academy who claim they were never paid. After an audit of the company, it was discovered that the donated funds were used for “salaries, office space, cars with private drivers and a golf membership.”
It was just revealed that another of Madonna’s charities, Success For Kids, is under investigation by the FBI. Success for Kids has raised over $33 million since its inception but it is currently being investigated for “several irregularities and suspicious activity.” The charity reportedly provides lessons on emotional empowerment to children all over the world. The Kabbalah Center of Los Angeles, which helped found and fund these charities, is also under investigation for misappropriating funds. Dear Madonna, sounds like you should get out of the charity game now before anything else goes wrong.
In an interview with Us Magazine, Christina Aguilera has acknowledged that she’s going through a very trying time this year. The singer explained, “In light of the past year, there have been obvious setbacks. I’ve gone through a really hard divorce, and anyone who has gone through a divorce will speak about how hard the journey is from start to finish. It’s a life-uprooting time and there have been hiccups along the way that unfortunately the whole world gets to witness and judge.”
While it’s certainly tough to live life in the public eye while going through a divorce and rumors of a drinking problem, Aguilera says “I can laugh about my own hiccups and my own experiences in life because I’m getting through it.” Being a performer makes it more complicated, because “you could be having the worst day of your life and you have to get up on that stage and you have to give to your fans in a way that they would never know the difference,” she says. She plans to channel her own experiences as she advises contestants on the upcoming singing competition, The Voice. She wants the world and the aspiring singers on the show to know that she’s “human, too” and that “people make mistakes and go through things in life and I’m definitely taking that into the show.”
