How quickly our sartorial tastes have to move in peak party seaon. Yesterday we had Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Jessica Biel as our current favorite fashion stories. Today, we’ve moved to Kristen Stewart, Alicia Keys and Liv Tyler. Kristen was at a special screening of On The Road yesterday at Sundance Cinema in L.A. and her face looked absolutely gorgeous. She wore an edgy Jason Wu Spring 2013 ensemble which involved black leather high-waisted shorts with lace inserts and Barbara Bui black oxfords. Can everyone pull this off? No, but Kristen can! Next up, we have Alicia at the Keep A Child Alive’s Black Ball “Redux” 2012 benefit at The Apollo Theater in New York City. She poured herself into a minimal, burgundy column, and we’re dying to know who designed it. Loving the simple black choker with the diamond design as well. Lastly, we have Liv Tyler at the New York premiere of The Hobbit and forget everything else — we have to get those shoes! The all-black outfit’s great but those shoes were absolute lust at first sight. Especially because she, very smartly, matched them to the shade of lipstick which looks completely stand-out on her. But enough of typing, we’re now going to make it our life’s mission to find out who made those heels or break into Liv’s closet.
Jessica Biel‘s landed Elle‘s January 2013 cover, and as you can see above, we don’t know what takes precdence: that necklace or her bangs! She poses with a number of our favorite designers in the spread, including Giambattista Valli, Jean Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa, but the interview is all about her wedding to Justin Timberlake, and what it’s like being Mrs. J.T. She’s also talked about the now-famous pink wedding dress she wore, saying, “I wanted the dress to be very romantic and feminine and a shape that I very rarely wear. I have never been crazy about all-white wedding dresses, for me at least. [Valli] had created that same fabric in a fuchsia-and-pink combination for a dress in a previous collection, and I asked him if he could create that same pattern in a white combination, and he suggested pink. It was a bit of a leap of faith at the time, but it turned out better than I could have ever imagined. [Putting it on], I felt like I had made the right choice. I felt elegant. And it moved like a dream.”
Another super cute moment is when she talks about Justin’s domestic side — he really has one, people — revealing, “He bakes pies. He’s Southern, so he’s got all this influence from his grandma. He does a three-layer pie…and blueberry crunch cake, which is pretty unbelievable. It doesn’t happen all that often, thank God. Otherwise, it would be a big problem.” And does anyone else think their idea of marriage sounds adorable, but kind of sexy? Her idea comprises, “It means always having someone there to open the pickle jar…to share the ups and downs with, have adventures with. Someone to go swimming naked with. That kind of thing.” He bakes and goes skinny-dipping — do not let this one go, Jessica.
You have no idea how long we’ve been waiting for the new Star Trek movie. And now we’re one step closer because the teaser trailer is out and it is all sorts of boss. All the usual suspects are in there reprising their roles: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg and John Cho. New additions include Alice Eve and one totally ballerBenedict Cumberbatch. Sherlock fans will know why we’re so stoked. And he’s the bad guy, which is even cooler. The trailer starts with his gravelly voice threatening, “You think your world is safe. It is an illusion. A comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned to have my vengeance.” And then everything explodes in the coolest way. Of course there’s the obligatory close-up shot of Pine’s face with his baby blues looking intent. Makes us melt every single time. There’s also one clip of Alice screaming in abject terror, so you know Cumberbatch is bringing it. The movies’s only releasing next year in May, which is a huge bummer, but if they keep serving slices of trailer goodness, we won’t complain. Not too much, at least.
Gwyneth Paltrow is gracing the cover of InStyle U.K.’s January 2013 issue and we’re a bit perplexed. Not by the very Upper East Side Gossip Girl pastelness of the pink Jill Sander coat she’s wearing. It’s because of her face. She looks weirdly un-Gwyneth-like (*cough* airbrush *cough*) and it’s freaking us out a little. The cover story has designer Diane von Furstenberg interviewing the actress who, of course, talks about her exercise and diet regimen. “I was very strict for a while. I was macrobiotic for a couple of years, then I got pregnant and just ate ice cream,” she says. “What I’ve learnt is I want to enjoy my life and food is a big part of it. I love to cook and feed people. I cook every day. I don’t like sweets. My indulging is a fresh baguette with cheese and a glass of red wine, or French fries and fried zucchini. Or a turkey burger.” And our immediate response to that is, where does she put it? She’s also talking about the possibility of having more children, revealing, “My brain says, ‘Oh, I think I’m done, the kids are big now and I don’t want to go back to changing diapers’. But a part of me would love to have another. Of course, I’m old now!” We disagree. Bring back mom, Gwyneth! And let’s just take it easy on the retouching now, shall we? We actually like her face the way it is.
There are so many events happening simultaneously all over the globe that it’s hard to keep track sometimes. Out of all who’s who going where and why, we’ve culled out our three favorite fashion stories from around the country in the interests of brevity and conciseness. We’ll start with Taylor Swift who hosted the the Grammy Nominations Concert Live with LL Cool J in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena. You can read the full list of Grammy noms on VH1 Tuner. Why do we love this look so much? Because Taylor looks like a cross between a snowflake and a lace doily in this Queens dress and still pulls it off! Next up, is Jessica Biel at the Playing For Keeps premiere in New York, and the reason why she’s on this list is because of the OMF factor of her Versace dress. Slashed neckline, much? And tiny waist, hello! Jessica teamed the statement dress with Sergio Rossi shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Lastly, we have Justin Bieber, who we included pretty much because of that pose. It’s so faux gangster that it makes us giggle. As do the sunglasses and the gold bling. It’s the Biebs, guys! How did this happen? This amazo picture was taken at Q102’s Jingle Ball 2012 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Never change, Justin.
It’s here, it’s here! Les Miserables finally premiered yesterday Odeon Leicester Square in London. As expected, both Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried chose outre designs that we’re not quite sure about. What do you think of Anne’s white satin Givenchy Spring 2012 Couture gown? We love the draped back and the beading but the billowing sleeves leave us a bit cold. Amanda was the yang to Anne’s yin picking a jet-black Balenciaga Spring 2013 look. It’s aggressively ruffled, in our opinion, although the white piping is a nice touch. We have serious follicle envy, though, because her hair looks incredibly lush. And Anne’s crop is totally working for her now that it’s grown out a tad. The premiere afterparty was held at the Camden Roundhouse, and the two actresses made a quick change for the do.
Anne is wearing an Altuzarra top and skirt which we’re totally digging. Even though she looks completely teeny in it. Like, ridiculously tiny. But so elegant, right? Amanda picked leather pants and a gorgeous bottle-green cape that looks chic, yet weather appropriate. But, what of Isla Fisher, you say? Where does she fit in, in this whole thing? Well, we saved the best for last because Ms. Fisher wore a white Willow Spring 2013 gown which almost caused our eyeballs to pop out. Because the whole thing — plunging bodice doesn’t even begin to describe it — looks like it’s held up by a prayer. Take a look for yourselves, by all means. Read more…
Remember that hoopla about the big Thanksgiving brawl at Halle Berry‘s house? It was between her ex, Gabriel Aubry and her current fiance, Olivier Martinez, which resulted in some pretty nasty bruises all over Aubry’s face. Aubry also claimed that Martinez attacked him and threatened to kill him, as he was angry over the $ 3 million payout he and Halle had to pay over daughter Nahla‘s custody battle. Olivier and Halle lost the battle, which is why Aubry said the French actor went berserk, resulting in what’s turning out to be an epic fight.
Now, in an interesting turn of events, TMZ claims that the police has ascertained that Aubry’s pants are clearly on fire, because he was the prime instigator of the fight — not Martinez. Detectives found out that the series of events that concluded with the brawl, involved Martinez going up to Aubry, as he dropped Nahla off to Berry’s house for Thanksgiving, saying, “We have to talk.” Aubry then apparently pushed Martinez and then threw a punch at his face, only to hit his shoulder. Which is when Martinez went into kick-ass defence mode and punched Aubry three times. Sources have even told TMZ that Gabriel has “ongoing anger issues” and that, “It seems he’s still having a hard time getting over his break up with Halle.” He’s got a lucky break in this whole mess though, as Halle and Olivier are not pressing charges against him as they feel it would hurt their daughter Nahla, of who Gabriel is the biological father of. While this drama is still unfolding, here’s one very important lesson we’ve learnt from the whole thing: you do not mess with Olivier Martinez. Or the French in general.
Oh, Rob Kardashian. Had you done what Rita Ora is doing right now. That is, have a sit-down with a fabulous magazine and have a calm chat about the break-up, rather than going on a Twitter rant and then deleting it. Rita’s sounding way more classy here, as she talks to Glamour U.K. about what went wrong between the two. “I’m not going out with Rob. We were close for a while, but it didn’t work because I was never there. I was like a ghost. I used to get so frustrated with myself and then wonder why I was angry, so I decided it was best to keep it friendly — especially at the moment, when there’s so much going on,” she explains, as we totally feel her. Here that sound? That’s the sound of Rob slowly deflating as Rita comes up trumps. She takes it one step furthur, making us want to hug her, by adding, “In 22 years, there’s been nothing. I have had young fascinations but never love. I think it’s my only weakness. I’m scared of letting my guard down, and if I feel in love with someone now, he’d have to try ten times harder to break it down.” Hey, Rita. If it doesn’t work out in the entertainment world, P.R could use a new guru and we think that could be you!
Correction, this headline may be a tad misleading. Sarah Jessica Parker and Christina Ricci did justice to the event they were photographed at — a preview of HBO’s Vogue documentary: “In Vogue: The Editor’s Eye”, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York yesterday. Dianna Agron, not so much. We can’t understand why she didn’t bring the glamor she exemplified at “2012 Ripple of Hope” gala on Monday night. We understand the midi-length of her dress — she wore head-to-toe Bottega Veneta, which normally, would be a good thing — is on trend but we can’t help but think she looks frumpy, especially with the heavy, clumpy shoes. The makeup isn’t really working as well as her lips really need a pop of color. SJP on the other hand, reminded us of her character Carrie from Sex and The City mixing and matching a cobalt blue coat with a gorgeous rose-printed vintage frock, with jazzy Jean Michel Cazabat pointed pumps, a Fendi bag and Fred Leighton jewels. If we had ever attempted that outfit, we’d be laughed out of the building. We also loved Christina’s textured black outfit which comprises herringbone fitted top and a taffeta skirt all from Richard Chai love. The navy blue suede pumps and the berry lips are a nice touch too. Ms. Agron will get it right the next time, we’re sure.
So, y’all know that Ashton Kutcher is starring in a biopic based on Steve Jobs life, right? The working title is jOBS and news has released that it will premiering at Sundance, and will be the closing event at the festival next year, in January. The first promotional picture of Ashton in character as the late Jobs appeared on the Sundance website yesterday — you can see it above — and we have to say our jaws dropped flat to the the ground. Especially if you compare it to the photograph below.
That’s the actual Steve Jobs in a photo that dates circa 1981-82, taken from All About Steve Jobs, which is a pretty incredible site. The resemblance between the two is just uncanny. We’ve been reading reports of how Ashton fits the role perfectly but now we can see it for ourselves. Josh Gad (who plays Steve Wozniak) was right when he told US Weekly last month at the BAFTA Brittania Awards, “Ashton is going to blow a lot of people away. His performance was absolutely transformational. If he looked any more like Steve Jobs, I think it would just confuse a lot of people . . . It’s that uncanny.”
