Sure, we watch the MTV Video Music Awards to see our favorite artists pick up a trophy or two for their work in the past year and to watch some phenomenal performances. But there’s a big reason it’s way more fun to watch than, say, the Grammys: Having this many stars in such a party-hard atmosphere always leads to some of the best unscripted moments on TV. A whole lot of those moments are simply fun, but often they turn into car-wreck spectacles. Of course, the latter is what we end up remembering in the decades that follow. From Andrew Dice Clay’s off-color jokes that got him banned from MTV for life to Michael Jackson’s misunderstood birthday cake to Kanye West’s infamous “Imma let you finish” speech, we love those moments that make us cringe in our seats, anticipating the embarrassment the perpetrators probably won’t feel until the morning after. While we eagerly await a whole new batch, here are our top 10 most cringeworthy moments of VMA history:

Demi Lovato took her fierce blonde locks to the Today Show this morning to discuss the upcoming season of The X Factor. And if you’re anything like us you’re super pumped for the show to begin next week, less for the new talent, but more for tons of Demi and Britney Spears face-time. Demi gushed about Britney, saying she never thought she’d be sitting next to Britney Spears for anything “let alone working with her.” Demi told Today Show host Natalie Morales, that she was amazed that Brit said Demi was cooler than her. Demi’s mind was blown by this since, after all, this is “Britney-freakin-Spears!” Demi, we hear you girl, but give yourself some credit, too! Demi said Britney was one of her idols and one of the first concerts she’d ever been to. We can’t wait to see these stylish BFFs in action! If the September 12th premiere of The X Factor is too far away for you, make sure to catch Demi perform her hit single “Give Your Heart a Break” during the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show this Thursday.
With the summer coming to a close we’ve decided to celebrate the only way we know how … by remembering this season’s sexiest celebrity bikini bods. Between all of the Twitter and Instagram uploads and paparazzi shots, there was a never-ending stream of photos of scantily clad stars, so it was hard to narrow it down to just 20 top shots, but we did it! It should also be noted that there were plenty of runner-ups including Aubrey O’Day, Brooklyn Decker, Vanessa Hudgens and Irina Shayk. (And of course, our Bikini Awards runner up, Claudia Romani, whom we didn’t include because she got a place of honor in our Breakout Stars of the Summer feature.) Browse through the gallery of our top pics and vote for the celebrity you think had this summer’s hottest bikini body.
Newcomer Missy Franklin has stormed the Olympics with seemingly effortless skill, a permanent smile, and an infinite amount of charm. All told, the 17-year-old will compete in seven events, and she has already swam in 13 races! Franklin kicked off her Olympics career in London by scoring a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay, a gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke (her first individual) and a gold in a 4×200 meter freestyle relay. We’re exhausted just typing all of that out and yet Franklin still has more to swim at the Games, competing in the women’s 200 meter backstroke on Friday. As if all that didn’t make her amazing enough here are 10 reason we really love Missy and want to call her our BFF:
1. She’s a Hunger Games Super Fan
She loves the Hunger Games so much that she read the Hunger Games trilogy… TWICE!
Let’s be real, we can’t make it through an entire Olympics without a scandal or two surfacing, but that’s what happens when you gather thousands of perfectly sculpted and hard-trained athletes from around the world and have them compete for ultimate bragging rights — best in the WORLD! And as someone who races strangers up the subway platform daily for no reward at all, I understand competitiveness. But sometimes the intense pressure drives professional athletes to do stupid things and with so much at stake, Olympians are scrutinized and closely watched even when they are playing fair. We’ve gathered 10 Olympic Scandals in the last 20 years (we had to narrow it down somehow!) including two very recent Olympic controversies.
10. Ye Shiwen, 2012 Summer Olympics, London
After setting a world record winning the women’s 400-meter individual medley on Saturday, Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen caught the eye of many. The 16-year-old swam the final 25 meters of the women’s race faster than Olympic champion Ryan Lochte swam the final 25 meters of the men’s individual medley to win the gold. On Monday, Ye swam in the 200-meter individual medley scoring the fastest qualifying time, setting yet another world record. So it should be of no surprise (unfortunately) that the teen is facing accusations of using performance enhancing substances. At this time, Ye maintains her innocence saying, “There’s absolutely no problem with the doping.” We hope not, Ye, we love a good clean fight.
