From Romeo & Juliet To Hunger Games: Why We’re In Love With Young Love

I’m not naming names, but some people in my life ask me pretty often: Why do you care about all these teen things? A reasonable question, given the fact that I’m 35, a mom and have an office jammed full of YA novels. I have given a lot of explanations about how the stakes feel so much higher for teenagers, which makes their drama more entertaining. Plus I don’t want to watch a bunch of 30-somethings sitting around in Brooklyn cafes — I want escape. But nothing I say can match the eloquence of Phylicia Rashad (on ANY subject). Ms. Clair Huxtable herself, whose daughter Condola is starring in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway right now (opposite Orlando Bloom) really explained it well.

Scandal Burn List: Mammoths, Liars And Made-Up Bimbos

View Photo Gallery

I know most of you Scandal fans out there are super Team Olitz, and I get it, I really do. But my Felicity-loving heart was rejoicing last night at the reappearance of Noel Jake. Pretend I didn’t write that, though. Let’s get on with the one thing we can all celebrate about “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”: The burns.

Glee Remembers Cory Monteith, We Look Back At At Our 2009 Interview With Him

Cory Monteith Glee

We’re buying extra boxes of Kleenex for Glee’s “The Quarterback,” the episode dedicated to Finn Hudson and Cory Monteith, the late actor who made Finn one of the most endearing singing football players ever to grace the small screen. Just to get the tears started a little early, we reached into the VH1 archives and pulled out this interview we did with Monteith, Lea Michele and Amber Riley back in 2009. It was a silly round of “5 Questions,” but now even Cory’s joking answers mean something to us.

How Did Jennifer Hudson Handle Playing The Worst Mom In Mister & Pete?

The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is a heart breaker. It follows two boys, 13-year-old Mister (Skylan Brooks) and 9-year-old Pete (Ethan Dizon) who are left on their own in public housing one blistering hot NYC summer, facing constant hunger and the looming threats of nasty drug dealers and a group home with a terrible rep. It’s all clearly the fault of their drug-addicted prostitute mothers, one of whom is played with gritty realism by Jennifer Hudson. If it’s hard for us to watch, what was it like for Hudson, mother of 4-year-old David Daniel Otunga Jr., to act?

I don’t know about you folks, but I’ve been dying to see Vampire Academy make the leap to the big screen for a good five years now, ever since I first imagined Rose and Dimitri under the spell of that locket. Orange Is The New Black Stars Weigh In: Team Alex Or Team Larry?

Fact: The Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black is based on a memoir of the same name, by Piper Kerman, on whom Taylor Schilling’s character Piper Chapman is based. Fact: Piper Kerman is married to writer Larry Smith. Fiction: This is a spoiler for the show’s love triangle. Or maybe it is. On the red carpet of their PaleyFest: Made in New York panel last week, we asked show creator Jenji Kohan and stars Schilling, Jason Biggs and Natasha Lyonne whether they’re Team Alex or Team Larry — in the time honored tradition of reducing complex relationships to sports analogies.

Mark Pellegrino Explains Lost, His One Direction Fandom And The Scary Tomorrow People

View Photo Gallery

We’re not going to say Mark Pellegrino is destined to play a villain. After all, Lost’s Jacob — one of an impressive number of TV characters he’s brought to life — turned out to be a mostly good guy. But his mere presence in the premiere of The Tomorrow People tonight on the CW (9 pm ET) lets us know that the heroes are in trouble. His Dr. Jedikiah Price is the leader of Ultra, an organization that is trying to find and neutralize the so-called “Tomorrow People” or homo superiors, a new species with powers of telekinesis, telepathy and teleportation. We recently spoke to Pellegrino, however, and he defended Jedikiah’s motives as pretty reasonable. He also managed to share his thoughts on his roles in Lost, Mulholland Drive, Supernatural and Doogie Howser M.D., and — brace yourselves — how he came to love Glee and One Direction.

Who You Looking At? Guess The Celebrity Eyes!

Guess the Celebrity Eyes

We apologize if the image above is just a tiny bit creepy. As much as we love looking into the eyes of our favorite stars, looking at them THIS closely is pretty unsettling. Still, it’s pretty interesting to see how well we know the peepers of famous people like (spoilers) without seeing the rest of their faces. Also, this is a great opportunity to study their makeup techniques up close. Test your eye-q right here and now!

Remember When James Spader Was Hot?

View Photo Gallery

Story time, kids! Once upon a time, James Spader was not the slightly bloated, sometimes disturbingly zen man you’ve seen on TV in The Practice, Boston Legal, The Office and now his new show, The Blacklist. He was a threateningly cool teen heartthrob. We weren’t supposed to like him in Pretty in Pink or Less Than Zero, but secretly, we kinda did. Heck, long before Christian Grey, he was lawyer E. Edward Grey, a sexual dominant who was responsible for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s sexual awakening in Secretary.

Kerry Washington, Watch Your Back! Jennifer Hudson Is After Your Job

Are we a little too Scandal-obsessed this week? Sorry, we can’t help it. But also, neither can anyone else. On the Daily Show Thursday night, Kerry Washington said it was astonishing how often real Washington insiders confessed how much they identified with the show’s story lines. And earlier this week, Jennifer Hudson starred in a Funny or Die spoof, “Scandalous,” sponsored by the White House (for the Affordable Health Care Act). When we sat down with Hudson, we asked whether she wanted an actual guest role on the ABC hit.
