Step aside for a moment, nostalgic American Reunion trailer. Wyatt Knight, 56, who played Tommy in the original gross-out movie trilogy, Porky’s (known to us girls as “the movie where Kim Cattrall got her start playing sex-crazed bombshells”), was found dead in Maui last week, according to TMZ. His body was found near the home where he’d been staying, and police believe it was a suicide.
So, now, in Wyatt’s honor, we give you a choice: Watch the above trailer for Porky’s and relive a simpler time in movie history, when a film about boys looking to lose their virginity was a novel thing. Or, if you’re feeling a little more emo, watch Stages, the short black-and-white film Wyatt himself uploaded in 2008, in which he plays an out-of-work actor who works as a movie theater usher. (Sigh.)
Talk about adding insult to injury. The New York Post noticed today that Kim Kardashian has unfollowed Kris Humphries on Twitter, even though he’s still following her. To be fair, his last post was on October 30, so maybe he’s just avoiding social-networking, or all Web activity, while he heals his broken heart. Don’t worry, Kris. Once you get back on your feet and embark on one of these promising new careers, you’ll have plenty of new loyal followers.
Interestingly, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher raised eyebrows in September when they apparently unfollowed each other in the wake of his alleged jacuzzi dalliance — practically confirming the story. But we wonder, do most people unfollow their recent exes? Or is it better to keep tabs on them, just in case? Well, you tell us:
We pose a lot of questions here at the FABlife. Rarely do we expect the actual subject of our questions to respond. But Christina Perri did just that! After her video for “A Thousand Years” premiered last week, we asked you to pick which Breaking Dawn quote went best with the song. Here’s Christina’s answer:
“The quote from the poll that most fits ‘A Thousand Years’ from the Twilight books is the one about pulling them together under the water forever and loving each other forever,” she told us, referring to this one, from the first night of their honeymoon: ” ‘Don’t be afraid,’ I murmured. ‘We belong together.’ … ‘Forever,’ he agreed, and then pulled us gently into deeper water.”
“I wrote ‘A Thousand Years’ about Edward and Bella being madly in love with each other for the past 1,000 years and for 1,000 more years and forever and ever and ever. So that quote fits the best!”
Makes sense to us. And who are we to argue with a girl with a Twilight-inspired tattoo? Read more…
From what we’ve seen online of the Hunger Games feature for the December issue of Vanity Fair, the magazine didn’t get a ton of new scoop on the movie (or, very likely, they’re saving the good stuff for the newsstands). What they did get was a spectacular photo shoot with the cast. We’re particularly amused by the black-and-white pic of Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth lying in the grass and looking like an outtake from a Vampire Diaries poster.
The other thing that stands out to us, both from the interview
with Jennifer and the fun interactive cast guide, is how much everyone wants to convince us that this is a movie about kids killing kids. Check out these quotes:
Jennifer (Katniss), on the most difficult part of filming: “The fact that it didn’t feel like filming a movie. When we were filming in the woods, it didn’t have that Hollywood gloss — it was real snakes, real bears, and really scenes of running up and down a mountain for 13 hours.”
Liam (Gale): “I’d heard about how popular the books were, but I wasn’t quite aware of how dark and gritty the story was. It started me thinking and asking questions like, Could something like this actually happen to us one day?” Read more…
Country superstar Miranda Lambert stopped by Big Morning Buzz Live today to promote her brand-new album Four the Record. But her outfit reminded us more of her side project the Pistol Annies‘ song “Hell on Heels.” While her sequined top does hint at the country music scene’s love of glamor, her beaded leather jacket, tough-girl rings and mile-high strappy platforms make her seem like she’d be at home at a biker bar or Sunset Strip rock club. Even her fashion sense has crossover appeal! Check out the details after the jump. Read more…
Call it ironic timing, but we’d already chosen to nominate Zooey Deschanel as one of this week’s Hotness candidates long before we heard the sad news that she’s divorcing Ben Gibbard. But on the bright side, a little ego boost is always good for a newly single girl! We’re certain this isn’t the first time Zooey’s been compared to that other object of hipster affection, Kat Dennings, but we couldn’t resist it. Not only do both ladies have that girls-want-to-be-her/guys-want-to … thing going for them, but they’ve also both made pretty awesome transitions to the small screen this fall, in The New Girl and Two Broke Girls. And they both have recently tweeted about vegetables (Zooey dissed bok choy , Kat is a fervent brussels sprouts supporter).
Zooey may have an advantage in this race, with her triple-threat as an actress, one half of She and Him, and HelloGiggles blog co-founder. But we also wonder if she’s too obvious a choice. Kat may have won just as many indie-rockers’ hearts in Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. And she is smoking-hot in the new issue of GQ. We’re not sure how you’re ever going to be able to decide between them. Here’s a gallery to help you, though. Then vote after the jump!
Oh, noes! Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard are splitting after two years of marriage, Us Weekly reports. Unlike some other high-profile splits, this has really shaken our perception of romance. I mean, how could the super-cute (I will NOT use the “A” word or the “Q” word today) New Girl star/She & Him singer and the super-sweet Death Cab for Cutie frontman not have little cartoon hearts floating around them and birds singing their love songs at all times?!
“It was mutual and amicable,” a source told the site. “There was no third party involved.”
Was work and touring what drove the wedge between them? Did Ben get annoyed by one too many “adorkable” posters (darn! I was trying not to use that one!)? Was she disappointed that Ben absolutely refused to turn every single HelloGiggles post into a Death Cab concept album? (Wait a second, I might have something there.) Did he see our own Halle Kiefer’s Zombie Deschanel Halloween costume and realize he was missing out on the real beauty? Stay tuned while we investigate.
In the meantime, let’s all go home and watch Dirty Dancing on mute while blasting “I Will Possess Your Heart” over and over in homage to their short love story.
When Kris Jenner stopped by satellite radio station Shade 45′s Sway in the Morning show today (to promote her book, Kris Jenner … And All Things Kardashian), she did her best to set the record straight about daughter Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries. She used her best soothing, motherly voice, but that didn’t hide the protective mama-bear tone of her words.
“The misconception that’s so annoying in the media and the press is that the wedding was a sham and she did it for the money,” Kris told Sway. “Kim didn’t make any money off of this wedding. She didn’t make 5 cents off of the wedding. She spent millions of dollars of her own money on a wedding.” Read more…
Scarlett Johansson seems to be taking the advice we got for celebs from CNET Internet security expert Declan McCullagh, “If you take nude photos of yourself or allow nude photos of yourself to be taken … either you embrace this (like Marilyn Monroe did) — this is part of you, part of your mystique — or you keep them encrypted on a hard drive that you, and not your boyfriend, hold the key to.”
So in her cover story interview for the December issue of Vanity Fair, she saucily declares of the nude pics that leaked in September: “I know my best angles. … They were sent to my husband [Ryan Reynolds]. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like I was shooting a porno. Although there’s nothing wrong with that either.” Read more…
There’s only a little over a year left before the last Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, hits theaters, and fans aren’t the only ones worried about what will fill that void in their lives. Those of us whose livelihoods rely on fan enthusiasm (being completely honest here!) are a little concerned too! But that’s not the only reason why we’re excited to learn about progress in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer‘s alien survival drama The Host.
According to Variety, they’ve narrowed down the choices for the two male leads to play opposite Saoirse Ronan. Saoirse will play Melanie, whose body, like almost every other member of the human race, has been invaded by an intelligent, parasitic alien species. After being on the run from the invasion for so long, Melanie is somehow strong enough to remain partially conscious while the alien in her body, Wanderer, tries to take over. And with Wanderer she manages to run away and find the underground hideout where Melanie’s uncle, boyfriend, brother and others have been living. She’s not exactly received with open arms, but while fighting for survival she also winds up in one of the most intriguing love triangles we’ve ever read. That appears to be Stephenie’s specialty, doesn’t it?
In the running to play Melanie’s boyfriend Jared are Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Jai Courtney (One Shot) and Max Irons (Red Riding Hood). And testing for the role of Ian, who falls in love with Wanderer, are Dane DeHaan (In Treatment), Thomas McDonnell (Prom, that’s him pictured on the right, btw), Augustus Prew (The Borgias) and Jake Abel (Ronan’s Lovely Bones co-star).
While we wait for In Time writer/director Andrew Niccol to make up his mind, we’ll be over at Hollywood Crush voting for our picks for the roles.
