Magic Mike To Stacee Jaxx: Who Will Be Summer’s Funniest (And Sexiest) Men?

Mark Wahlberg, Matthew McConaughey, Ben Stiller Summer Movie Preview funny men

As The Avengers kick off summer movie season today with a bang or two (or 100), it’s easy enough to forget that blockbusters aren’t just about men in tights, showing off their massive CGI effects. On some of those sweltering days, you don’t want to step into a theater to worry about the fate of the world; you want to laugh your ass off. We’ve already looked at the ladies doing their part to make the season hilarious, and now it’s time for us to decide which of these sexy funnymen will be the sexiest and funniest at the multiplex from May through August.

This year, we have some double threats — the guys who will make us laugh and fan ourselves: Tom Cruise radiates sex as rock god Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages, Matthew McConaughey sells it as strip-club owner Dallas in Magic Mike, and Mark Wahlberg hides it beneath a manchild exterior as John, the guy who tries to let go of his talking teddy bear in Ted. There are also the funny guys we crush on, no matter how goofy their characters, like Russell Brand as the narrator of Rock of Ages and Andy Samberg as Adam Sandler’s unfortunate son in That’s My Boy. There are the comedians we’d kind of like to take home to mom — Ed Norton and Jason Schwartzman in Moonrise Kingdom, Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill in Neighborhood Watch, Steve Carell in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Chris Rock in What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell in The Campaign. And then there are the bad boys we’d keep secret about, Vince Vaughn in Neighborhood Watch and Sacha Baron Cohen in The Dictator.

New Amazing Spider-Man Trailer: Andrew Garfield’s Bid To Win Our Summer Movie Heroes Poll?

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man

We’re pretty sure the release of the brand-new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man has nothing at all to do with the fact that The Avengers is in theaters today, getting summer movie season off to a running start. It was almost certainly released because the folks at Marvel realized that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are getting their butts whipped in our Summer Movie Preview Heroes and Heroines polls. These things matter, people. Well, they certainly matter to the Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell fans who have been voting nonstop since Tuesday.

All kidding aside, this new trailer does a long way toward making us stop thinking of The Amazing Spider-Man as its own story, not just “that movie that isn’t the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man.” It has a fair share of action sequences, but the majority of the dialogue is about Peter Parker’s quest to find out more about what happened to his parents. We dare you to count how many times they say “Peter” in less that 2 and a half minutes. And just like in the last trailer, it makes abundantly clear why Andrew and Emma hooked up on the set. We can feel the sexual tension from our desks. So now, after watching this, do you want to head over to the poll and give that lovely Brit a few more clicks?

Catching Fire Officially To Be Directed By Francis Lawrence, For Real This Time

Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence

Obviously, things are complicated in Hollywood when you’re handing a super-successful movie franchise over to a new director. We get that. Still, when we saw Lionsgate’s press release announcing the Francis Lawrence would be directing the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, we scratched our heads a bit. This news was all but confirmed two weeks ago! You have to start filming VERY SOON! What have you been waiting for? CAST FINNICK ALREADY!

Err… Sorry about that little outburst. I mean, if we’re feeling anxious about this, imagine how poor Francis Lawrence feels. Well, officially, he’s feeling pretty good. Here’s what he said in the press release: “It is truly an honor and a privilege to bring Catching Fire, the second chapter of Suzanne’s beloved trilogy, to the big screen. I fell in love with the characters, the themes and the world she created and this chapter opens all of these elements up in such a thrilling, emotional and surprising way. I can’t wait to dive right into it and bring this chapter to life along with the truly superb cast and filmmakers involved.”

And here’s what producer Nina Jacobson had to say about him: “From my first conversation with Francis, I knew he would make a great partner for both me and Suzanne. His passion for Catching Fire and inspired ideas for a faithful adaptation make him the perfect director for this movie. I know this will be a wonderful collaboration and I cannot wait to get started.”

We can’t wait either. Now get to work! (The releases says production begins “this fall” and the movie release date is still November 22, 2013.)

Ashton Kutcher’s Popchips Dating Ad Pulled For “Brownface”

Ashton Kutcher's controversial Raj character for PopChips Worldwide Dating ad

So, yesterday, we kind of ignored Ashton Kutcher’s fake ad for WorldwideLovers.com (actually an for Popchips), because, well, we just didn’t find it all that funny. Maybe interesting to see Ashton’s attempts to look unattractive, but yeah, not funny. And because that made us dismiss it, we kind of missed the bigger controversy, which really blew up by yesterday afternoon: That the Kardashian-loving “Bollywood producer” Raj is a pretty racist stereotype. After several pundits and regular viewers complained of Kutcher’s “brownface,” the snack company removed Raj’s profile video from its Facebook site. But not, interestingly, from the Youtube video featuring all of the characters.

“The new Popchips worldwide dating video and ad campaign featuring four characters was created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone,” said a statement from Popchips given to TheWrap.com.

Miley Cyrus Escalates Cute Pet Arms Race With New Puppy Happy

Miley Cyrus' new dog Happy

Miley Cyrus wasn’t about to let Josh Hutcherson hold onto his spot as owner of the cutest celebrity pup for very long, even if he is bf Liam’s co-star. We’re certain that’s why she decided to add to her pack and adopt Happy, who she says was left in a cardboard box outside of Walmart. “He’s a little boy were not 100% the breed were think Rottweiler Beagle mix :),” Miley tweeted yesterday, along with a number of pics of the heartmeltingly adorable dog. She already had her hands full with Yorkie Lila Blue, bulldog Ziggy (the pup she bought Liam for his bday last year) and husky (we think) Floyd, but something tells us she’s not the only one who has to pick up after them.

Mama Miley wasted no time in playing matchmaker for Happy, since she took him along to her hairdresser’s place and introduced him to little Joey here.

Robert Pattinson To Hunt For Saddam Hussein In Mission: Blacklist

Robert Pattinson to play Eric Maddox in Mission: Blacklist

Just a few days after we learned that Kristen Stewart signed on to play a troubled girl who sells a failed snuff film in Cali, Robert Pattinson’s next gritty role has been announced. According to Variety, the Twilight star is attached to Mission: Blacklist, a military thriller based on the book Mission: Blacklist #1, which recounts how an interrogator in Tikrit helped capture Saddam Hussein.

We assume RPattz will play Staff Sgt. Eric Maddox (pictured above, right), the interrogator who co-wrote the book with David Seay. According to the book’s website: “The story begins with Sergeant Maddox’s arrival in Iraq in July 2003 and extends through to when he pinpoints Hussein’s location, just hours before the expiration of his tour in December 2003. Central to the story are the interrogations of progressively more important insurgents as Sergeant Maddox closes in on Hussein’s location. During these interrogations, Sergeant Maddox undergoes his own process of self-discovery, as he learns the art of interrogation, how to find the right psychological lever among the target’s fears, hopes, ambitions and pride that, once pressure is applied, coaxes the target to divulge the information he conceals.”

What Makes Avengers Villain Tom Hiddleston Geek Out?

While comic book fans the world over are totally freaking out over The Avengers this weekend (or last weekend, if they’re those lucky folks overseas), we kind of wonder what the stars of the movie geek out about themselves. VH1 News asked Tom Hiddleston at the New York premiere of the movie, and the answer makes him seem the very opposite of his super evil character Loki. In fact, we won’t be surprised if it clenches him the victory in our Summer Movie Villains poll.

“I’m quite a geeky runner; I love running,” he admitted. “I’m also a geek about tennis. I love watching tennis, I get obsessed by it, I don’t know why. I think I find it so dramatic, like, because after, at a certain level, it doesn’t matter how good you are and how much training you’ve done, it’s like up here [in your head] and in [your heart]. So when you see people like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and [Novak] Djokovic go at it, it’s just like a battle of wits and heart. I’m getting geeky about it right now!”

Kate Upton “Cat Daddy” Video Ban Makes Us Very Confused About Youtube’s Policies

No, we are not just posting the above video so that you have another excuse to watch Kate Upton doing the “Cat Daddy” for Terry Richardson. Also so you can see that it is not really all that pornographic as you would think, given that Youtube banned it earlier today for “nudity.” And then removed the ban but placed an age restriction on it. (Which, those things are airtight, right?) Anyway, it’s pretty odd to us that this video gets censored when there are currently 3,050 Kate Upton videos on the video site right now, most of them featuring the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl bouncing her assets in slow motion. And there are 37,800 search results for “Cat Daddy.” Maybe it’s the gross way that Richardson adjusts her strap before the dancing starts? Maybe it’s the extremely low cut of her bikini bottoms — though it is basically the same suit she wore on the SI cover this year, and that was shown all over the place. Most likely, this video caught the site monitors’ attention because it already has 717,000 views in just two days.

There’s no nudity in Kate’s video. But it seems like Youtube is as arbitrary as the MPAA with its censorship. The “Community Guidelines” state that “YouTube is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. If this describes your video, even if it’s a video of yourself, don’t post it on YouTube.” And then, “Most nudity is not allowed, particularly if it is in a sexual context. Generally if a video is intended to be sexually provocative, it is less likely to be acceptable for YouTube.”

What do you think? Is Kate’s video too naughty for prime time?

David Arquette Was Totally Sober On Jimmy Kimmel Last Night, But He Could’ve Fooled Us

“I haven’t had a drink or ANYTHING since Dec. 30, 2010. You’re a knuckle head. I’ve been like that since birth,” David Arquette tweeted in response to a random woman’s reaction to his Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance last night. But man, you can’t blame that “knuckle head” for thinking the actor was on something! He arrived at the show with bloodshot eyes, laughing through every single answer, much the way a very high person does, or a person who is just naturally hyper and childlike, we suppose. And maybe he was just giddy about the brand-new Wonder Woman tattoo he got just before heading to Kimmel’s studio.
