The stars hit the streets again this week, wearing everything from ill-placed fur to dresses evoking the flapper style of the 1920s. But alas, some celebrities who tried to be fashion forward ended up failing miserably, yielding yet another week of picks for our worst dressed list.
Celebrity stylists seem to be running wild right now, dressing our favorite stars in anything that supposedly has the hint of chic. But after taking a look at the folks that made this week’s list of fashion fails, we can only hope that someone’s reading these stylists the riot act.
As we wrestle ourselves from winter’s grip, we’re scrambling to figure out what kind of style we’ll be wearing this spring. Celebrities may have been testing those waters too, as they quickly seemed to bring out eye-popping items from their closets to contrast the doldrums of a brutal winter. Let’s just hope this past week was a trial-and-error phase, because we really don’t want to see more of what the stars wore over the past seven days.
The Oscars and “worst-dressed” don’t go hand in hand for most celebrities. After all, the most rich, beautiful and famous people in the world converge on Hollywood to give us a glorious night of red carpet fashion. Unfortunately, not everyone shows up to the Oscars looking good. In fact, some of our favorite celebrities make massive fashion faux pas. Julia Roberts, Kerry Washington & more are the worst-dressed celebrities of the 2014 Oscars red carpet.
During awards season, celebs feel like princesses. Between December and March, designers send stars endless dress options, jewelers practically throw baubles their way, and A-list stylists clamor to be the ones to pull it all together for them. It can be overwhelming, dizzying — and ultimately, for some, the pressure results in a totally ass-backwards Oscar night look (in 1999, Celine Dion took this literally, showing up in a backwards tux). And then there’s the phenomenon we like to call Big Night Fail, where even the most stylish actresses look dazzling for every other awards show, but trip up for the Oscars (we’re looking at you, Kate Hudson in 2001).
With only a few days left before this year’s Academy Awards, we’re hoping that what we saw on red carpets this week actually isn’t a harbinger of things to come. There were definitely some questionable looks in the celebrity world as of late, and we’d like to think that folks are either testing the waters or just saving their best looks for Oscar night. Whatever the case may be, let’s make sure we start bringing our A-game, shall we?
This past week, London held the world’s attention with a bevy of high-profile events. And with that abundance of red carpet appearances, there was no way every celeb could completely steer clear of bad stylists. So who made our list of the week’s worst dressed stars?
As more cold weather brought parts of the country to a standstill, plenty of people were bundling up and leaving little clues to what they were wearing underneath their huge outerwear. But of course, celebrities proved that they’re a special breed who don’t need to hide their outfits, even in the face of winter weather. However, we couldn’t but wish that some of them had willingly chosen to cover up.
Our job creating this Worst-Dressed List is so much more difficult when every celebrity on the East Coast AND at Sundance is hiding their wild style impulses under puffy jackets. We are SO looking forward to the wackiness the Grammys will bring this Sunday. That’s not to say some our favorite risk-takers didn’t let us down — Kim Kardashian was in Paris again; need we say more? — plus there were a few golden (terrible) moments at the SAG Awards, the Producers Guild Awards and (sigh) in Erica Mena’s lobby.
Ah, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where the labor movement somehow hitches its wagon to Hollywood and our favorite stars schmooze with each other, union style. But just like any other awards show, some celebs donned the red carpet with ambitious fashions that totally missed the mark. So who made the worst-dressed list for the 2014 SAG Awards?
