FABlife’s DVD Pick Of The Week

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Year Six, and there’s a sense of an ending at Hogwarts—and not just because Ron plays his last game of Quidditch. Harry Potter is growing up, dealing with facial hair and passes from a comely café waitress. Indeed, romantic entanglements almost take precedent over Harry’s quest for Voldemort’s weak spot. This should suit his more hormonal fan-base fine. Unbelievers may find it all a tad talky until Bellatrix Lestrange shows up to prove that evil’s playing for keeps. Roll on The Deathly Hallows!

Extras: Deleted scenes, a doc on author J.K. Rowling‘s hectic life, and a teaser for the big two-part finale.

Dancing Boys & Glamour Girls At Nine Premiere

The cast of Nine were one motley crew at the film’s London premiere Thursday night. Penelope Cruz and Kate Hudson took the opportunity to wear glamorous gowns with heavy, expensive coats (much to the delight of attendee Alex Rodriguez), while Nicole Kidman went with a light jacket and miniskirt. The men’s outfits didn’t mesh either, with director Rob Marshall‘s business suit clashing with Daniel Day-Lewis‘ flamboyant ballroom dancing uniform, complete with velvet jacket and high-waisted, red-striped pants (much to the delight of attendee Bruno Tonioli). Surrounded by this incoherence, Judi Dench‘s elegant yellow gown—suitable in all scenarios—won the night by default.

Justin Long Leaves His Premiere…For Drew’s Afterparty

Meg Ryan, Justin Long & Drew Barrymore

Justin Long and Drew Barrymore had dueling premieres in NY last night, with the Mac pitchman appearing alongside Meg Ryan to promote Serious Moonlight while Drew shimmered on the red carpet for Everybody’s Fine. But once the movies were over, Long scooted off to join his girlfriend at an afterparty for her film at Tavern On The Green…leaving Ryan and Moonlight director Cheryl Hines to party without him at Rouge Tomate. Support your girlfriend, or support your co-stars? Must have been a tough call for a chivalrous guy like Justin. See shots from both premieres in the gallery below.

SJP Regrets Sex And The City 2

The rest of the population of Manolo-obsessed women may be nothing but excited about the Sex And The City sequel, but Sarah Jessica Parker says she is actually harboring “enormous regrets” about the film. The hectic shooting schedule has kept SJP away from her new twins, Marion and Tabitha, who were born just two months before filming began.

“It’s been amazing but complicated because of my current work schedule, which I have enormous regrets about. One (twin) would prefer to be held 24 hours a day, and the other is already suffering from type A (demanding personality) issues,” the actress told Glamour.  “It is the eternal conflict of every working woman. I’ve done this to myself. I have a wonderful, wonderful nanny who allows me to be a working person.”

“The great challenge for me is to be all things to all people; I want to be a great mother, and I want to feel good when I’m at work. But it is hard,” she says. Still, SJP says being a mom the second time around is still fabulous. “Nothing can really describe what it is like to have two new little girls.” [Photo: Splash News Online]

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, the Golden Globes, the Oscars…it’s the most wonderful time of the year again (in Hollywood only). Awards season is upon us, and 2009’s critically acclaimed films have introduced us to a new pack of uber-talented actors who are about to go from unknowns to A-Listers. We’ve got the 11 stars to watch as award nominations start rolling in, so that when they’re up onstage blubbering through their 10-minute acceptance speech, you’ll be able to say you knew who they were way back when.

Brad & Angie Take Maddox To Invictus Premiere

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Maddox Jolie-Pitt

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie brought their oldest son Maddox to the LA premiere of Invictus last night. The couple rarely get to take the kids along to their own films—what with all the sex and violence and everything—but pals Matt Damon and Clint Eastwood‘s a new film about courage, human rights and soccer in South Africa that was just perfect for a family night out. Also attending were Michelle Monaghan (looking packed in the back thanks to her drapey dress) and the ever-informal Kenny Chesney, who could have been mistaken for a barrier-breaking fan standing next to the dapper Morgan Freeman.

With its prestigious pedigree and positive message, Invictus has a good chance of scoring a trophy or two at the Critics’ Choice Awards this January. See more of the stars in the gallery below.

George Clooney Brings Girlfriend, Mother To Premiere

George Clooney, Elisabetta Canalis and Nina Warren Clooney

George Clooney would appreciate it if you’d take his romance with Elisabetta Canalis seriously. Sure, he’s been enjoying on-and-off affairs with countless beautiful ladies following his 1993 divorce, once claiming he’d never marry again. But the Italian model must mean more than most to the superstar, or he wouldn’t be posing at Up In The Air‘s LA premiere with both Canalis and his mother, Nina Warren Clooney. This might be the one, guys…if he and mama hadn’t posed with then-girlfriend Lisa Snowdon at the Ocean’s Twelve premiere five years ago. Dude better hope Elisabetta doesn’t find out about that.

Also attending the fete were Clooney’s co-stars Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride, Melanie Lynskey and Zach Galifianakis, as well as well-wishers like Cindy Crawford. Watch them shake their Oscar-baiters in the gallery below.

Alec Baldwin To Retire By 2012, Hates His Movies

Alec Baldwin

Between his back-to-back Emmy wins for 30 Rock and lead role in the upcoming Meryl Streep comedy It’s Complicated, you’d think Alec Baldwin would be feeling really good about his career right now. But in fact, the Hunt For Red October star is calling his film career a “complete failure.” “I don’t have any interest in acting anymore,” he told Men’s Journal. “Movies are a part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else.”

Baldwin reaffirmed his plans to retire as soon 30 Rock is canceled or when his contract expires in 2012. “I consider my entire movie career a complete failure. The goal of movie-making is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that. And now, the movies I’ve been in, I never give them a moment’s thought. Every movie I’ve ever been in, I just avoid.” Did he take his upcoming Oscar co-hosting gig with Steve Martin out of masochism or what? Sounds like even if Complicated is a hit, he’ll just credit that to Streep. No shame in being a great supporting actor, Alec! If you call your then-12-year-old daughter a “thoughtless pain-in-the-ass pig” and everyone still loves you, that has to count for something.

Natalie Portman Flaunts A Flapper Look At The Gotham Awards

Natalie Portman exploited her gamine physique in an old-fashioned flapper dress at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in NYC last night, where she took home a lifetime achievement award…despite not even being 30! Natalie is an early contender to be nominated for Best Actress for her role in Brothers at awards shows this season, including the Critics Choice Movie Awards, The Golden Globes and the Oscars.

Also receiving career tributes were Stanley Tucci and director Kathryn Bigelow, whose film The Hurt Locker also snagged Best Film and Best Ensemble Performance. See who else attended in the gallery below.
