Is Catching Fire The Best YA Book-To-Movie Adaptation For Grownups Of The Past 5 Years?

View Photo Gallery

As we celebrate the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire this weekend, we’re reminded that it was five years ago this month that a little movie called Twilight burst onto the scene, convincing Hollywood that Harry Potter wasn’t the only game in town when it came to turning kids’ books into wildly successful movies. The numbers — and the fan mania — supported the notion that it wasn’t just kids and teens watching these flicks. Soon, it seemed like every book ever written for young adult or middle grade readers was getting optioned in hopes that they would be the next next big blockbuster franchise. Sadly, as some of this year’s disappointments have shown, you need a little more than a popular book and pretty stars to make a hit.

What Will Bobby Moynihan Deliver In Delivery Man?

We chatted with Saturday Night Live‘s Bobby Moynihan backstage last week about Lady Gaga‘s hosting duties and what he’s planning on serving up to fans in the new Vince Vaughn film,¬†Delivery Man. Could it be that the silly funny guy is actually going to be the “voice of reason” in the movie?

Black Nativity Star Jacob Latimore Will Answer Your Questions Live On Very VH1

Just who is Jacob Latimore? If you’re a young R&B fan, you might already recognize him from his days touring with Mindless Behavior and Diggy Simmons. But the rest of us are about to hear his name a whole lot more as he shares the screen with the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Tyrese Gibson and Nas in Black Nativity, which hits theaters on November 27. What’s it like to have your first big starring role at 17 in a movie with Oscar winners as your supporting cast? Well, that’s just one of the questions we have for Jacob when he stops by our Very VH1 Spreecast on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET. You probably have plenty of your own questions too, which is why you should join us, sign in and ask him yourself. If you have a webcam, you may even get to talk to him face-to-face (well, virtually speaking).

Shailene Woodley To Michael Strahan: 12 Celebrity Tributes We’d Sponsor For The Hunger Games

View Photo Gallery

As fans of The Hunger Games know, it takes much more than muscle to be the last man/woman/child standing in the arena. It’s about cunning, adaptability and strategy, as well as good-old-fashioned survival skills. While these are not things you’d normally associate with pampered Hollywood stars, as we’re gearing up for the release of Catching Fire this weekend, we could think of a few favorite celebrities who’d do quite well in a Third Quarter Quell-style battle.

What Evan Rachel Wood Really Thinks Of Shia LaBeouf (And True Blood!)

As Disney stars gone wild go, Shia LaBeouf has been a little overshadowed lately by a certain girl formerly known as Hannah Montana, but with the release this weekend of Charlie Countryman, we were reminded of his tales of dropping acid to prepare for his role in the movie. LaBeouf plays an American visiting Bucharest, Romania, who falls in love with a beautiful cellist (Evan Rachel Wood) and gets mixed up with some dangerous mobsters (after getting slipped ecstasy, not acid, by his youth hostel roommates). When VH1 sat down with Wood this week, we asked what it’s like to play opposite a guy who’ll alter his brain to get into a scene.

Happy Birthday, Shailene Woodley! 22 Reasons She Deserves To Have A Huge Year

View Photo/Video Gallery

Some of our friends weren’t listening two years ago — when we saw Shailene Woodley dive into that pool in The Descendants and tear our hearts out in the process — that she was going to be the next big thing. Even when it was announced that she’d be in Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, there were skeptics. This year, as Shailene’s birthday falls two days after the release of the Divergent trailer, we think there are a few more believers out there. As the Secret Life of the American Teenager alumna celebrates her 22nd birthday, we thought we’d list 22 reasons she deserves to be huge this year. Apart from, you know, her massive acting talent.

The Best Man Holiday Stars: Who Is The Hottest Of Them All?

View Photo Gallery

One of the keys to a good ensemble comedy is having a star to appeal to every taste — in this respect, we think The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday have succeeded quite well. The 10 leads from the sequel, in theaters on Friday, run the gamut from Morris Chestnut, for those who like manly football-player types, to Eddie Cibrian, for those who melt for a good dimple. The ladies range from seductive Melissa De Sousa to sweet Sanaa Lathan. Who is your favorite from among these beautiful people?

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire London Premiere: What Were Those Soggy Stars Thinking?

View Photo Gallery

It was in the 50s and raining today in London, which sounds pretty typical, right? And also, really uncomfortable if A) you’re a fan who has been staying overnight to catch the Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere, or B) you’re one of the movie’s stars trying to be fashionable in a flimsy gown and not-so-sensible shoes. Both parties were still totally happy to see each other, though Donald Sutherland did cut his live streamed interview short, complaining that his feet were cold. Jennifer Lawrence, thankfully, put on her coat for her interview, happily discovering, as she told Yahoo!, that she found two Mentos in her pocket! We’re happy that the stars are willing to suffer for their fans and fashion, but we couldn’t help but caption the above photos with the thoughts we imagine were running through their heads. Not one of which, we assume, was, “Why London?”

Thor & More: Our 20 Favorite Instances Of Gratuitous Male Toplessness

View Photo Gallery

Look, it’s not just actresses who are forced to strip down for gratuitous topless shots. More and more actors are taking one for the team and taking off their shirts. Chris Hemsworth not only took his shirt off for no real reason in the first Thor film, but he does it again in the sequel, Thor: The Dark World! Ryan Reynolds routinely takes his top off on screen and Bella and Edward’s romance in the Twilight saga was almost upstaged by Taylor Lautner‘s abs.

For whatever reason that was shoehorned into the script, these 20 instances of gratuitous male toplessness exist on screen and it’s weird, but also¬†fantastic.

The Best Man Holiday Premiere Red Carpet: Holiday Spirit For Better And Worse

View Photo Gallery

Wait, it’s holiday movie season already? At The Best Man Holiday red carpet premiere in L.A. on Tuesday night, some of the stars embraced this fact whole-heartedly, wearing sparkling silver, glittery blue and delicious red (Morris Chestnut’s velvet blazer is amazing, but boys, don’t try this at home). Some went a little far in this theme (Lil Mama, how we love you). Others ignored the season entirely (looking at you, Claudia Jordan), or simply went with the great style that’s always worked for them (Taye Diggs and his bow ties 4ever). And then there was Terrence Howard, in a category all his own (multiple handkerchiefs, jaunty hat — what could go wrong?).
