Who says period dramas are all stuffy girls corseted up to the chin and foppish gentlemen with stiff upper lips? Probably people who don’t watch period dramas. The truth is that most period dramas are full of simmering sexual tension, bawdy maids, and torrid love scenes you can only find on premium cable.
We went through the archives and found our 20 favorite sex scenes in historic dramas.
Saint-Tropez, a once-sleepy fishing town on the French Riviera, owes a lot to the stars. It was the 1956 French movie And God Created Woman, starring blond bombshell Brigitte Bardot, that put the place on the map, instantly transforming it into a playground for the rich and famous. So, no, it wasn’t Diddy who made this place hot. But we did wonder why the likes of Jay Z and Beyonce, Neil Patrick Harris, Kate Moss, Rihanna and more choose to park their yachts there, of all places.

It’s a good thing they sent us all these postcards to tell us why they love Saint-Tropez. Wish we were there!
Here, for extra viewing pleasure, is a clip from And God Created Woman.
The Spectacular Now opens in theaters today and critics are already praising it as one of the best teen movies of the year and touting Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) and Aimee Finicky’s (Shailene Woodley) love story as one of the best teen romances of all time. That’s a tall order, and we hope that Sutter & Aimee join Kurt & Blaine, Bella & Edward and Noah & Allie on our list of the 20 Most Epic Teen Romances Of All Time.
Ermahgerd, memes! There is little that makes us happier than a new meme. Every time one comes up on our Tumblr dash, we do a little dance of excitement. Since 2013 has been one of the best years yet for pop-culture-driven, fan powered Internet humor, we thought that halfway through the year would be a good time to showcase a few of our favorites, including Actresses Without Teeth, Interrupting Javert, Sleeping Tilda Swinton, and our personal favorite Flower Crowns.
We think arms are one of the most under-appreciated body parts around. I mean come on, what’s better than a good hug? Oh, yeah, a good hug from your favorite celebrity. The stars are known for sculpting and toning every last inch of their biceps, delts, triceps and forearms just for our viewing pleasure. The least we can do is be able to I.D. them on sight. Do you think you can tell the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Mario Lopez, Jamie Campbell Bower, Aisha Tyler and more without seeing their faces? Prove it now!
So, maybe I’m the only one here who wore out my VHS tape of Much Ado About Nothing as a kid. In the Kenneth Branagh Shakespeare adaptation, the world first met fresh-faced English rose Kate Beckinsale, who played Hero opposite Robert Sean Leonard. Twenty years later, we’re looking at photos of the actress and cannot believe that she’s turning 40 today. Maybe that vampire gig in the Underworld movies was more than an act. Or maybe she’s had a little help. See for yourself.
Orange Is The New Black was released too late to be considered for the 2013 Emmy nominations, but the brand new Netflix series has quickly established itself to be one of the frontrunners for next year’s competition. The show, which is the latest series from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan, revolves around the travails of Piper Chapman (played by Taylor Schilling), a blonde WASPy type whose seemingly picture perfect life is turned upside-down when she’s sent to prison on drug smuggling charges. The series is drawing raves from critics and being streamed at record rates, thanks to its outstanding balance of comedy, drama and sexytimes, not to mention its ethnically diverse (and largely female) ensemble cast.
We all fantasize about the celebrity romance: a rich and handsome (and famous) man sweeps you off your feet. He wines and dines you. You travel the world. Months later, your wedding announcement is on the cover of all the tabloid magazines. That’s all well and good, but fantasizing about these 10 Bad News Boys should maybe come with a warning label.
Some celebrity couples are so legendary that we can’t forget about them: Liz & Dick, Brangelina, Hepburn & Tracy and Bennifer. But what about the trysts and romances between celebs that fall between the cracks? Just because the relationships between the celebs on our list are long over doesn’t mean that we should forget that their love was at one point real.
