Olive, who let you grow up? We know we’ve been agog at the newly grown-up Abigail Breslin before, but can we say how struck we are by Tyler Shields‘ glam new portraits of the Little Miss Sunshine actress? Somehow Abigail Breslin has been in the lime light during the most awkward years of any human beings life (approximately age 11 to 13) and managed to look adorbs the entire time. Check out our A.B. gallery below if you don’t believe us. Abigail never looked like we did in middle school. Never.
We are unabashedly excited about seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey the second it hits theaters — it speaks to our eighth-grade selves as much as to the part of us that’s just nostalgic for nine years ago, when the last of the Lord of the Rings trilogy premiered. But we also are under no illusion that Peter Jackson’s latest trilogy is the most glamorous of star-powered events — let’s face it, J.R.R. Tolkien wasn’t exactly hell-bent on making beautiful women the center of attention in his books, and few of his heroes were much to look at either. And while we are super eager to return to Middle-earth and all its hobbitses and wizards and elves and dwarves, our shallow selves are also grateful to Jackson and company for making sure there’s some eye candy in the movies too.
At today’s world premiere of the movie in Wellington, New Zealand, it was Cate Blanchett — returning as elf queen Galadrial — and Evangeline Lilly — who plays Tauriel, an elf invented for the movies — who brought the token glamour to the red carpet. We love Evangeline’s new short hair-do, paired with her playfully sparkly dress (and damn, girl, those legs!). Cate appears to have some elfin magic in her IRL, because the actress has not aged a day in the past 10 years. Jackson, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis were also on-hand to greet the costumed fans — and a couple of PETA protesters. Flip through the pics while you enjoy your second breakfasts!
Many people know Jon Stewart for one thing and one thing only: his long-running hosting gig on The Daily Show. While his sardonic political commentary is enough to make him an unforgettable entertainment legend, let’s not forget that Jon has in fact had employment elsewhere. We know it’s hard to believe, and even Jon himself poked fun at his unmemorable repertoire while hosting the 78th Academy Awards in 2006. “Tonight is the night we celebrate excellence in film, with me, the fourth male lead from Death to Smoochy. Rent it,” he joked. Let’s also not forget his riveting performance in The First Wives Club — which was later deleted — and his portrayal as Adam Sandler’s roommate in Big Daddy.
While it’s safe to say Jon Stewart may not be a draw at the box office, we are happy to say that he is a huge hit on the small screen. But a good rule of thumb in showbiz is: “Never forget where you came from, otherwise you’ll never remember where you’re going.” So in honor of his 50th birthday, we decided to pay homage to the career before the career, when his hair was a little less gray and his name a little less well known. We hope you enjoy it!
Ever since she brought it like a lady thrice her age in the “Whip My Hair” video last year, people have been after Willow Smith (and subsequently her mom Jada Pinkett Smith) for everything from her fake tongue ring to her music career to her amazing technicolor dream hair. With regards to the latter, Jada finally addressed Willow’s hair haters on Facebook, particularly those aghast that she had “let” her daughter chop off her hair. Would that we could be half the celeb mom! She said in part:
“Willow cut her hair because her beauty, her value, her worth is not measured by the length of her hair. It’s also a statement that claims that even little girls have the RIGHT to own themselves and should not be a slave to even their mother’s deepest insecurities, hopes and desires. Even little girls should not be a slave to the preconceived ideas of what a culture believes a little girl should be.”
We always approach awards season with a mix of fear, dread and excitement, and one of our earliest questions each time around is: Will this year’s nominees feel like homework or fun? The Film Independent Spirit Awards nominees, the first of many lists leading up to the Oscars, has just been released today, and if this is a sign of thing to come, the answer is “fun.” We certainly haven’t seen all of the nominees yet, and by its nature, this is an awards show that often contains a number of obscure titles and actors, but it looks like the indie world is also on board with some of the crowd-pleasers we’ve fallen in love with this year: Among the Best Feature nominees are Silver Linings Playbook, Moonrise Kingdom and Beasts of the Southern Wild. Beasts‘ remarkable breakout star, 8-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis, roared her way to a Best Female Lead nod, along with Silver Linings‘ Jennifer Lawrence. We’re rooting for Best First Feature to go to Perks of Being a Wallflower’s Stephen Chbosky and his producers. Twenty-nine-year old Zoe Kazan, who wrote and starred in Ruby Sparks, is the sole girl at the Screenplay party. But perhaps the best surprise of all is in the Supporting Male category, where Matthew McConaughey is nominated for playing strip-club owner Dallas in Magic Mike. Take that, everyone who thinks independent film is all about quietly contemplating the grass grow and talking in funny accents.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have basically been traveling the world nonstop for the past month, so yeah, we don’t expect them to get off the plane in full makeup and Gucci suits these days. But in the photo above, of the pair arriving back in LAX after a flight from New York, they still look a billion times better than, say, I did yesterday after a little Thanksgiving trip to Florida. They don’t even have bags under their eyes! Which is why we want to scream at the people who have jumped on these pics as proof of something or other.
Oh, that baggy T-shirt KStew’s wearing is definitely hiding a baby bump, some gossips say. It couldn’t possibly be just a casual shirt donned over skintight jeans (and I can assure you, THOSE are the first to go when there’s a bump in progress) for a cross-country flight. Read more…
Shortly after returning to the small screen as one of the most iconic characters of TV drama, actor Larry Hagman died at age 81 on Friday in Dallas, with his longtime co-stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy at his side, the Dallas Morning Newsreported. He succumbed to complications of cancer after a year-long battle with the disease. TNT’s reboot of Dallas had just been announced the actor was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer, but he promised that he wouldn’t let it hinder him from donning J.R. Ewing’s signature 10-gallon hat.

“I will be receiving treatment while working on the new Dallas series,” Hagman said in a statement at the time, per TV Guide. I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love. Besides, as we all know, you can’t keep J.R. down!”
TV fans will also remember Hagman as lucky astronaut Tony Nelson, who released a genie from her bottle in the 1965-1970 series I Dream of Jeannie, but it will be hard to remember him as anything other than the Texas oil baron. In case you’re too young to have experienced J.R.’s cold, hard stare, here’s a fan-made compilation of his great moments during the original show’s run, from 1978-1991.
The actor had shot the first six episodes of Dallas‘ second season before his death. It’s unclear how the cable series will address his death.
What do Nicki Minaj, tattoos and dogs all have in common? Well, judging from Miley Cyrus’ Twitpics, they seem to be her favorite things! In honor of Miley Cyrus leaving her Hannah Montana teen years behind and entering the new era known as her 20s today, we’ve decided to celebrate by gathering her hottest Twitpics.
Ever since that fateful day this summer when Miley traded her long brown tresses for a short, her hotness level seemed go even further off the charts -and we’re not complaining! What’s more cute than Miley dressing up as big bootied diva Nicki, complete with butt pads and tiger print unitard? Her Maltipoo, Lila, for a start! We won’t tell her fiance, Liam Hemsworth, but it looks like her dogs get the most love here. Despite planning a wedding and still working on world entertainment domination, she still has time to give us a sexy Twitpic every now and then. Let’s bask in the rays of her platinum-blond ‘do as we click through her photos.
As we travel home, hop into our elastic Thanksgiving pants and proceed to inhale turkey over the next week before passing out on the sofa with the football game on, we must take a time to pause and reflect. What are we thankful for? What makes us happy, and how can we improve ourselves for the upcoming year as 2012 comes to a close? Though there are still a couple of days before Thanksgiving, I already began to ponder these thoughts. Yes, I love my family. Yes, I adore my friends. But what am I really thankful for? Four more years of Sasha and Malia Obama in the White House!
Whatever your politics may be, you can’t deny that the 11- and 14-year-old daughters of Barack and Michelle Obama are adorable. From the intellect they’ve inherited from their brilliant parents to their keen fashion senses, the first daughters are role models and destined for greatness themselves. Here are four reasons why I love the Obama girls and why I’m looking forward to spending four more years with them:
1. We’re Watching Them Grow Up – Sasha and Malia were just 7 and 10 when they entered the White House, and four more years of an Obama presidency means Malia will be 18 and Sasha will be 15 by the time Obama’s term is complete. Thus, some of their most formative years and milestones will be spent at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Lucky for us, we’ll hopefully get to share some of these experiences with them. In the next several years, Malia will be taking driving lessons, going on college tours, and dare we say, dating? We can’t wait to see a photo of the Secret Service accompanying Malia and a Sidwell student to dinner and a movie. Read more…
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy have been dating since May, but after an uptick in their public appearances (and PDA) of late, it seems like the world is still coming to terms with whether this couple is creepy, cute or just plain odd. But if we keep harping on the age difference between the 25-year-old actress-turned-fashion mogul and her 42-year-old businessman BF, we’re missing something else in this story: French guys are the hottest new accessory for Hollywood ladies. First we saw Halle Berry and her delicious actor fiance Olivier Martinez. Then Aussie beauty Melissa George, after her split from Russell Simmons, hooked up with French millionaire Jean-David Blanc and was recently spotted shopping for wedding dresses.

Hilary Swank took up with French real estate broker Laurent Fleury this fall, and already they’re said to be sharing his apartment in Paris when they’re not going for romantic walks in Venice Beach. And just this week, Scarlett Johansson was spotted in New York with Romain Dauriac, the former editor of French art magazine Clark, whom she may have met through her tattoo artist.
We have no way of knowing if all these French paramours share anything in common besides incredibly sexy accents (and possibly bank accounts large enough to keep up with these successful ladies), but it’s nice to know the only ones who’ve dreamed of being swept off our feet by a barely shaved, impossibly masculine guy who also knows how to order wine and make us feel like a princess. Not to buy into stereotypes or anything.
