You don’t have to read too much into Twilight to realize that before she was the creator of books people obsess over, Stephenie Meyer was obsessed with other people’s books. She took that obsession to new levels recently, becoming a producer on the film Austenland, based on Shannon Hale’s book about a woman (played by Keri Russell) who visits a Jane Austen theme park in search of some old-fashioned romance. At the flick’s Sundance premiere, VH1 News asked Meyer and a handful of the movie’s stars what books or authors they’d like to see made into theme parks, a la The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
“[Austenland] is my theme park,” Meyer said. “If this place really existed, if I could go and dress up in Regency attire and hang out all day, reading books in a beautiful library, I would totally … That’s my vacation.”
And no, she doesn’t really see a Twilight World in our future. “There was interest in that, and honestly, what are you going to do?” she asked. “That doesn’t sound like fun. What kind of rides are you going to have? There’s not as much scope for an amusement park there.”
I don’t know, Stephenie, I think a lot of us would love the chance to hop on Edward’s back for a ride through the treetops.
Speaking of Twilight mania, Meyer told us that none of that craziness followed her to the Austenland set, which lived up to its idyllic name in the English countryside:
Ah, how we love the mornings when we find ourselves staring for an hour at a celebrity’s chest and playing “nipple/not nipple.” Today’s subject: Nicole Scherzinger, who wore quite the stunning black William Vintage Ossie Clark dress to the National Television Awards in London on Wednesday night. Like many a black gown before hers, this one turned sheer in the glare of a million camera bulbs. And naturally, many of our fellow gossip sites are calling out “wardrobe malfunction!” But we’re feeling a little contrary. Mostly because we have boobs, and our nipples have no reflective quality the way Nicole’s appear to in this photo, and even in the one below, where the flash is a little dimmer.
When you see the above photos of Kanye West wearing a red ski mask yesterday, you wouldn’t be blamed for coming up with a number of theories:
1) He’s finally lost it.
2) It’s as cold in Paris as it’s been here in New York.
3) He’s finally a little bit ashamed of the showy nature of his relationship with baby mama Kim Kardashian.
We’re in a rare down week of awards season, and while most editors are breathing a sigh of relief and/or eyeing the bundled-up fashions of the Sundance stars, we decided to keep going with the VH1 Celebrity Style Points awards season competition. In lieu of an actual event to judge, we had our panel — Yahoo! Entertainment’s New York bureau chief Breanne Heldman, MTV Style’s associate editor Maud Deitch, Glamour online style editor Nikki Ogunnaike, and our own Ambika Muttoo and Sabrina Rojas Weiss — look back at an outfit each of the eight contenders wore to a movie premiere in the past year. Emma Stone, Kerry Washington, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence were delightfully unpredictable at these events, and we love how that shook up the results a bit.
Kerry Washington, Rome premiere of Django Unchained
Nikki: +4 “Consider Kerry my newest style crush. She killed it on the Django press tour, and this Peter Pilotto dress was just the beginning. There are so many things going on with this dress that it could be considered a don’t, but I think she pulls it off with aplomb.”
Maud: +3 “While my first reaction was to rub my eyes and say, ‘Wait, what?’ to this dress, I really love the way it fits her. I love how willing she is to step over into the whimsical. That said, it’s wearing her a little bit.”
Breanne: +3 “I know many people hated this dress — it was featured in our ‘What Were They Thinking?!’ column — but I kinda dig it. It’s got such a fun sense of whimsy. We’re so used to seeing Kerry in power suits on TV; I love seeing her be so playful on the red carpet. Love it or hate it, I dare you to name anyone who would be able to pull off this Peter Pilotto number as well.”
Ambika: +2 “This Peter Pilotto is SO cray I begrudgingly like it. It takes cojones to wear something like that, so while it is truly nuts … I applaud her.”
Sabrina: +3 “This looks like a parody of crazy red-carpet style. Which is why I am blown away by how good Kerry looks in it. Don’t try this at home.”
Average score: 3
We’re sorry we’ve been ignoring Fashion Week this time around. The shows in Paris are in full swing and we thought mid-week would be a nice time to do a little round-up. Because where there is couture, there are celebrities. All vying for front-row, of course. We’ve gathered the top six stars visiting, because they were either, super well-dressed or, stuck out like sore thumbs. We’re talking about you, Rita Ora. That’s what the singer wore to the Chanel Spring-Summer 2012 shows. With Alexander Wang leather lace up boots. Not particularly politically correct, Rita. Kim Kardashian decided to channel a very chic Parisienne at the Stephane Rolland show, while Jessica Alba‘s chic little outfit and bright coral lipstick made us smile at Christian Dior.
Rounding up this sartorial crew are Salma Hayek, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike. We’re in love with Salma’s Giambattista Valli Fall 2012 collection claret dress worn, where else, but to the Valli couture showing. Diane pushed the boundaries as usual at the Chanel showing, looking like a French schoolgirl, while Rosamund’s sunny smile and enviable boots were the talk of fashionistas at Dior. But who are you talking up? Whose fashion was smashin’? Let us know, folks!

Damn — these two need to take a bow. Y’all know our immense love for Michelle Obama. This writer even shares her birthday with the FLOTUS — bragging rights, holler. We’ve all been so stoked for the historic occasion of President Obama‘s inauguration, which went down yesterday, and we have to admit, one of the reasons we were so excited was to see what Michelle would wear. Best-dressed First Lady, ever. Can we just say, Mrs. Obama did not disappoint at all. She rocked it in the stunning red chiffon and velvet Jason Wu gown you see on the left. We literally broke into rapturous applause when we saw her. Kimberly McDonald custom jewelry and Jimmy Choo’s complete the look. But the first lady wasn’t the onlylady in red at the evening. The fabulous Ms. Alicia Keys also performed at the ball wearing a red crystal embellished Michael Kors Fall 2012 gown with that gorgeous bare-back adding that necessary hint of sexy. Terrific looks, so you know we’re going to have to put this to a vote, right? Come on, hit an option and let us know what you’re thinking!

So, we’ve been fangirling a fair amount over whatever bits of Warm Bodies we can get. That sentence sounds pervy, but you know we mean the movie, right? Anyhoo, most of out focus has been trained on the film’s star, Nicholas Hoult. For very good reason, because, the now ex-boyfriend of Jennifer Lawrence, is nothing short of adorable, even in zombie form. We’d like to shift the focus a tiny bit onto the object of Hoult’s zombie’s affections in the film — Teresa Palmer. Lovely girl, and we’re hoping a fair amount of you have been crushing on the Aussie actress in her past films like I Am Number Four and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. We like her because she seems so darn likeable. Which is why her makeup artist should be given the axe. Nay, they should be thrown out of the industry, period. Why are we being so vicious, you ask? Well … take a look at the pictures above and see why. Would any professional makeup artist worth their salt let a celebrity (or anyone) walk out with that much white powder under their eyes? This was taken at a photo call in London for Warm Bodies and we’re wondering … did no one in her team actually look at her face? It’s just ridiculous. Sorry, Teresa. You didn’t deserve this.

How much fun this would have been to rock out at! The Kids Inaugural Concert (part of a series of events centering around President Obama’s inauguration) too place in Washington DC this weekend for children of military families. The First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters, Malia and Sasha were there and performers like Katy Perry, Usher and Nick Cannon took to stage. Our focus here, though, is Ms. Perry because it was a little hard to not focus on her! We already know Katy’s a huge Obama supporter — she’s even had him stenciled on her nails! But a group of us were taking a look at pictures from the concert and there she was, dressed in a very Wonder Woman-esque outfit comprising hot pants and a basque, patriotically festooned with the Stars and Stripes, of course. Is it cute? Kind of. Is it gimmicky? Sure. But we’re wondering if it’s tacky as well. We personally think it is. But our opinion doesn’t matter here. Yours does. Let us know what your thoughts are. Should Ms. Perry maybe decide to dress a little more appropriately now or is this something you consider all in good fun?

We don’t actually much to say about the above photos; they are here simply because it is our favorite “Rihanna doesn’t give an eff” look of late. She’s leaving a recording studio in Los Angeles (and yes, Chris Brown left the studio shortly after her) wearing this sleeping-bag-esque camo coat over a loud marijuana-leaf-printed dress. What temperature is it in L.A. these days, anyway? We assume it’s not quite as pleasant as a good day at the beach in Barbados. And as onlookers, we too wish RiRi could be back in bikini weather. Except we always like the idea of her recording more. But maybe NOT with Chris Brown. Basically, we are about as conflicted about these photos as her military-pot themed outfit. We will just shut up now and let you enjoy.
Also, here are some vintage (2012) Rihanna doesn’t-give-an-eff looks:

We’re a little bit confused about the purpose of Emma Stone’s cover photo in W. Not that this is the first time the fashion magazine has baffled us by featuring a cover model in no clothing. I mean, that’s a very stylish bra, and I’m sure if I saw the whole leather jacket she has wrapped around her arms, I’d like that too. But mostly, the vibe we’re getting here is “Emma Stone can be a corrupted, sexy little girl, in addition to all the roles you already like her for.” The messy hair and minimal makeup add to that post-coital look. Inside the mag, she’s wearing more clothing that follows in this punk princess theme. And none of this fits either A) the quirky comedian she normally portrays in real life, or B) the mob moll she’s playing in Gangster Squad.
Not that she doesn’t look good, of course. Also, she makes up for this confusion with this quote about her appearance as a presenter at last year’s Oscars. “It was for best visual effects, so Ben [Stiller] and I had all these funny ideas. Planet of the Apes was nominated, so we thought we would bring a chimp onstage and I’d say, “Oh, it looks so real.” And Ben would be like, “It’s a real chimp.” And I’d be insisting, “Oh, my God — the work they do now is so staggering.” And he’d repeat, “It’s a real chimp.” But apparently, you can’t make the Oscar presentation about a particular movie or else the audience thinks you’re swaying the vote toward that movie.”
Any girl who’s disappointed she didn’t get to bring a chimp onstage at the Oscars can do no wrong in our book. Academy, please make her present again this year.
