We’re thinking that Rihanna got fed up with our constant jokes about her never wearing pants. That’s the only way we can explain this bizarre double-bagged jeans look she wore to her River Island launch after-party in London last night.
Here’s why we’re rejoicing over Rihanna‘s special dual cover for Elle‘s April issue. They’re both very fashion focused where, “Rihanna shows off pieces from her spring/summer 2013 collection for River Island on both: a black, zip-through River Island skirt paired with a Louis Vuitton monochrome top on one and on the other, a striped bra from the same collection peeking out from Prada’s silk and satin stole.” But apart from all of that, we’re just happy she’s clothed. And not being — exceedingly Rihanna. We love her, you guys know that. But between her mostly naked GQ cover, her hyper-sexy Complex covers and her her many, many half-naked Twitter pictures, covers and editorials, we’re used to seing the songbird not just cross the line, but erase it completely. Then there are the even more controversial photographs of Rih blazing up which are a whole ‘nother ball game. So, thank you, Elle. We’re really enjoying see Rihanna look sharp, gorgeous, gamine while covered up because she can totally rock that avatar too.

Awards season fashion-judging is almost more fun than watching the awards themselves (definitely the case with Sunday’s flat, terribly un-PC Oscars ceremony). For your armchair fashion policing pleasure, we created a Style Points race to track how the fashions of the following high wattage stars stacked up during Awards Season: Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Chastain and Kerry Washington. Bad hair happens to even the most glamorous of us, as proven by Hollywood’s elite on Oscar night. Wacky styles were out in droves on the red carpet, from she’s-come-undone buns to long, platinum man-tresses (spotted mostly on Euro technical award nominees, natch). Here, the most insanely wrong coiffures of the evening — we won’t judge if you won’t.—Tia Williams
What great timing on this. Not only did Jennifer Lawrence look awesome at the Oscars, and won the coveted Best Actress statue, but she’s also getting a whole lot of love — and by that we mean extra publicity — thanks to her new Dior gig. A couple of months ago, we wrote about Jennifer being named as the new face of the iconic Miss Dior bag. Which is why she’s been wearing so much Dior this season. Raf Simons, the creative director of Women’s Fashion of the brand, gushed over her, saying, “Like everyone else, I first discovered Jennifer Lawrence in the roles she played in action movies. I was, of course, struck by her incredible onscreen presence in these blockbuster films, but also impressed by her powerful interpretations of subtler, more rounded characters. Her youth and her classic beauty, but also her force of character and the complexity she’s capable of embodying at such a young age are, for me, both unique and very moving.” WWD has now revealed some of the pictures from the campaign, which will be officially break out later this month. As you can see in the photographs above, J.Law is killing it. We can’t wait to see more!

So, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway had another thing common at the Oscars other than looking beautiful and winning Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. No, Jennifer did not spawn an entire twitter account about nipples, like Anne did. They both wore rather unusual accessories with their gowns — back necklaces. That is, necklaces that drop down over the back, rather than the front. Jennifer — seen on the left — chose a fine, minimal Chopard necklace that flowed down over the back of her Dior Haute Couture ball gown. Anne’s Prada column was buffed up by a chunky floral necklace from Tiffany & Co. that graced her shoulders and was centered between her shoulder blades. Is this a thing now? Do you agree with this trend or should it be thrown into the fashion rejects bin?

From the very first moment that word began leaking out about Anne Hathaway‘s powerhouse performance of “I Dreamed A Dream” in Les Miserables, she became a heavy favorite to win her very first Oscar. However, from the very first moment that she stepped onto the red carpet of the Academy Awards tonight, the only thing that people could concentrate on were the way that her Prada gown put her not-unfamiliar nipples on display.
UPDATE (2/24/13 at 11:48 p.m.): Good news! Jennifer Lawrence did NOT lose, after all; she took home the Academy Award for Best Actress tonight for her awesome performing in Silver Linings Playbook. She did, however, trip on her way up the steps to accept the award. Yet another reason —our Sixth, in fact!— to love and root for our girl, J-LAW!
Jennifer Lawrence may be slowly slipping into second place behind Emmanuelle Riva in the Best Actress Oscar race, but she remains solidly on-top in our books for reasons that go far beyond her amazing work on-screen. Despite all the hoopla surrounding her, from the indie accolades to the blockbuster bank, she is decidedly unfazed by it all. She doesn’t pal around with other celebs in her down time and she has yet to succumb to the unrelenting and unrealistic pressure of the Hollywood Actresses Must B Skin n’ Bones machine. She likes her mom. She is…normal. And that, more than anything, is the most extraordinary thing about her.
The cast of Spring Breakers spent most of the shoot in bikinis, but the gals went for glam at their movie premiere in Paris on Monday. Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine all shone on the red carpet, but all in very different styles!
Alas! Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is over, but its looks will guide our closets bravely into fall. True, there are some trends we will happily live without. (Seriously designers, what is with the fur? We are not living in the Game of Thrones nor do we have any desire to drape ourselves in dead animals.) But there are many others that we can’t wait to rock. Read more…
