Precious Metal SAG Awards Showdown: Jennifer Garner Vs. Naomi Watts

Jennifer Garner, Naomi Watts, metallic gown, SAG Awards

Way to up the glamour factor, ladies. Nothing like a hit of precious metal done really well at an awards show, right? So we must all bow down and thank Jennifer Garner and Naomi Watts for providing that high-voltage hit for all of us at last night’s SAG Awards. Jennifer was more fabulous than we’ve seen her in years, wearing a strapless gold Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2013 gown. The actress worked it with soft, burnished curls framing her face, gorgeous glowing skin and a rose lip — hallelujah, because her hair and makeup normally lets her down. A matching dull gold clutch and David Webb jewelry completed the look. Look at the embroidery, beading and sequins on the gown. It’s so beautifully done and such a strong statement to make — I’m effing amazing and I know it and so do you. Naomi was the silver to Jen’s gold but no less exquisite. Soft waves swept over one shoulder a beautiful matte pink totally complemented her shimmering, intricate, crystal and silver embroidered Marchesa gown. And like Jennifer, she also matched her little box clutch with her gown with the addition of Faberge jewelry, of which her sapphire ring made our eyes pop (look at her left hand, helpfully placed on her hip.) We really can’t choose who looked best, so you’re going to have to vote and do it for us.

Anne Hathaway, Claire Danes, Kaley Cuoco Reign Top 10 Worst-Dressed List At SAG Awards

Top 10 Worst-Dressed At SAG Awards

This is totally ruining our high over the SAG Awards best-dressed list, but it has to be done. Also, how is it possible that Anne Hathaway swings so wildly between getting it so right, and so wrong — nothing in between. Sadly, she got it so wrong at the awards show last night wearing a twee, frothy, half-sheer Giambattista Valli Couture dress that just didn’t do anything for us apart from making us say, “Why, Anne?” We do love her accessories in the form of her Jimmy Choo ‘Kalpa’ heels and her black Edie Parker clutch. We may be a tad harsh on Jessica Chastain as well — but it’s only because her people never seem to get fits right on her. The red McQueen gown maybe a beautiful, but it looks like it wants to crush her breasts, and to add insult to injury, it looks rumpled. We really don’t like the Harry Winston diamond necklace on her, either. It’s the wrong piece for the dress. Also, twee and in the same color, was Kaley Cuoco whose red lace Ramona Kaveeza dress made her look like a doily, even though her red velvet Giuseppe Zanotti heels gave her cred. Does anyone else think the new haircut with the bangs looks like a wig?

Rose Byrne was the wrong woman for her Valentino Resort 2013 gown because the fabric and the ruffles made her look matronly.  And while her hair and makeup were sweet and retro, Claire Danes went in the opposite direction with deep maroon lips that just looked incredibly harsh on her. They put us off, and her black Givenchy didn’t exactly impress either. Neither did Julianne Moore‘s Chanel Couture Fall 2011 gown, which like Jessica’s, had a major fit problem as well. Let’s just say the bodice took its cues from the name of the awards show and made her look like she was sagging. There’s more on the list, so carry on to the gallery to have a look.

Vote For Your SAG Awards Hot Pink Favorite: Lea Michele Vs. Freida Pinto Vs. Nina Dobrev

SAG Awards: Lea Michele, Nina Dobrev, Freida Pinto

This one’s going to be a hard choice to lock down, peeps. At least it was for us, which is why we’re putting it up for a vote. It was wonderful to see pops of hot pink on the SAG Awards red carpet last night, especially on three such lovely ladies who pull off the color so well. We’ll start with Lea Michele. We’re not too keen on the ombre hair — a trend we really wish would go away — but fell for the drama that was her fuchsia Valentino Resort 2013 ball gown. It’s different from the usual super sexy, thigh-high slit Lea that we know and not-often love. So this chic, pull-back look was a welcome change. Jimmy Choo heels and Jennifer Mayer jewelry finished the outfit quite nicely. Next up, we have sartorial favorite, Freida Pinto. The actress wore a stunning flouro-pink Roland Mouret gown, that draped in a column around her like a boss. The black belt at the waist was the perfect touch, as was the soft styling of the vintage hair. Now, if you twisted our arm and forced to pick our look for the evening, then we’d have to admit that Nina Dobrev has inched ahead. This hot pink Elie Saab Spring 2013 gown with the ever-so-subtle cutouts is possibly one of the best looks the actress has ever worn, period. Take a bow, Nina. Actually, take a bow, all three of you. Now, all that’s left to be seen is your vote!

Amanda Seyfried, Tina Fey, Kiernan Shipka & More: The 15 Best Dressed At The SAG Awards

Amanda Seyfried, Kiernan Shipka and Tina Fey are among the best dressed at the SAG Awards

The SAG Awards were full of lovely ladies and gents in black and blue who did not in any way remind us of bruises, along with welcome splashes of silver and purple, but what we loved across the board on the 15 outfits we’ve selected below is the way their cuts play up the perfect bodies of their wearers. Amanda Seyfried feared walking in her glorious Zac Posen, and Jennifer Lawrence almost tripped on her Dior as she stepped up to accept Best Female Actor, but we appreciate the sacrifices they made in the name of fashion. Tina Fey continued the winning streak she began at the Golden Globes, and Kiernan Shipka continued the one she’ll probably be on for decades more to come. It was all a pretty good showing for yet another contest for a naked statuette!

Michelle Dockery, Naya Rivera Bring Major Sideboob, Cleavage To SAG Awards

Michelle Dockery and Naya Rivera heat up the SAG Awards

More like the not-so-SAG-gy awards, amiright? The Screen Actors Guild (and AFTRA, for those of you who are all union savvy) Awards are considerably less flashy than the Globes and the Oscars, but that doesn’t mean some actresses were going for dull and demure on the red carpet tonight. Dowton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery and Glee’s Naya Rivera, for instance were flashing a little something extra. Michelle’s Ralph Rucci was spiced up with a sheer side panel that left us wondering how she was defying gravity so nicely. Naya’s Donna Karan Atelier was heavy on the texture detailing, which didn’t distract from the nice bit of cleavage she had on display. So on this important night when actors congratulate each other on their very important work, we ask you this very important question:

Alec Baldwin’s SAG Awards Hair: Our Theories On How It Went So Very Wrong

His 30 Rock co-star Tina Fey looked like a dang shampoo ad at the Golden Globes a few weeks back with her glorious hair, but Alec Baldwin showed up at the SAG Awards tonight looking like, well…that. Um, what’s up with your ‘do, Baldwin? Even his gorgeous new wife Hilaria Thomas on his arm couldn’t distract from the shaggy tragedy on his head. We’ve thought long and hard about what exactly went wrong, and we’ve come up with a few theories.

1. He got into a vicious fight with a weed-whacker weilding assailant on the way to the red carpet.

2. With his 30 Rock gig nearly over, he decided to start saving money by cutting his own hair.

3. He decided to wear a toupee over his real hair - just in case.

4. He had it cut for his role as Lloyd in a Dumb and Dumber reboot.

We reached out to one of Baldwin’s hair follicles, but he declined to comment.

Jennifer Lopez’s Dress Has Butt Cut-Outs, Just In Case You Actually Thought She Needed Spanx

Jennifer Lopez Wears Cut-Out Dress To Parker Premiere Dress

Oooo, our faces are as red as our infected Spanx line! (Thank you, Tina Fey, for informing the world about that dire affliction.) As if it wasn’t enough for her to defy both gravity and cultural perceptions of beauty by becoming hotter as she enters her forties, Jennifer Lopez obviously wore a dress with butt cut-outs to the Parker premiere last night just to demonstrate how she doesn’t need the four pairs of overlapping Spanx most leading ladies wear on the red carpet. Or, uh, any underwear whatsoever. Jeez, we get it, Jennifer Lopez. Your body is its own Spanx.

Jessica Alba, Amanda Seyfried, And More Ladies Heat Up The Frigid Sundance Film Festival

The Ladies of The 2013 Sundance Film Festival

It’s pretty hard to look away from the (sexy!) men at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and let’s face it, we don’t even want to! But here at VH1, we believe in equal opportunity, and it’s time for the lovely ladies of Sundance to take center stage.

From Amanda Seyfried and Evan Rachel Wood, to Shailene Woodley and Elizabeth Olsen, Hollywood’s female royalty were out in full force, and the fashion theme among the starlets’ – old favorites and newcomers alike - was simple: keep warm! Sweaters and fleeces, long-sleeves and jackets, even cute hats and scarves were all the rage among the ladies in chilly Utah. Except of course for Jessica Alba or Dakota Fanning, who both opted for sleeveless dresses. Risky, ladies! Cute – but risky! Either way, the women of Sundance proved once and for all that beauty doesn’t fall by the way side when the cold comes creeping in. Head down to the gallery below for more!

Twilight World? Stephenie Meyer, Austenland Stars Discuss Which Books Would Make The Best Theme Park

You don’t have to read too much into Twilight to realize that before she was the creator of books people obsess over, Stephenie Meyer was obsessed with other people’s books. She took that obsession to new levels recently, becoming a producer on the film Austenland, based on Shannon Hale’s book about a woman (played by Keri Russell) who visits a Jane Austen theme park in search of some old-fashioned romance. At the flick’s Sundance premiere, VH1 News asked Meyer and a handful of the movie’s stars what books or authors they’d like to see made into theme parks, a la The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

“[Austenland] is my theme park,” Meyer said. “If this place really existed, if I could go and dress up in Regency attire and hang out all day, reading books in a beautiful library, I would totally … That’s my vacation.”

And no, she doesn’t really see a Twilight World in our future. “There was interest in that, and honestly, what are you going to do?” she asked. “That doesn’t sound like fun. What kind of rides are you going to have? There’s not as much scope for an amusement park there.”

I don’t know, Stephenie, I think a lot of us would love the chance to hop on Edward’s back for a ride through the treetops.

Speaking of Twilight mania, Meyer told us that none of that craziness followed her to the Austenland set, which lived up to its idyllic name in the English countryside:
