We’ve all heard of on-set rituals, but this one may take the cake. We allllll remember when Keri Russell infamously chopped her curly locks into close-cropped pixie style while on the classic ’90s series, Felicity. It’s been more than a decade, but the hair ‘do has followed her even onto the set of The Americans!
We’re in the middle of The Tanning of America week here at VH1, and, in addition to the four-part television event airing Feb. 24-27 at 11 PM ET, last week’s screening was quite the star-studded gathering. Steve Stoute, author of the book that inspired the series, was in attendance. Hip-hop legends Nas and Fab Five Freddy showed up, too. Comedy icon Jerry Seinfeld made an appearance, as did Video Music Box creator Ralph McDaniels and our own #HipHopChangedUs contributor Sharon Carpenter. The message of The Tanning of America became a reality on this special night. Check out more photos in our gallery to see what else went down.
In Hollywood, there’s a contingent of talented actors for whom awards and endless praise from the film community are expected. Meryl Streep competes for her fourth Academy Award on Sunday night, and it’s been scientifically proven that she gets thanked more than God at these things. Each year some permutation of the same crew is expected to receive nominations and each year we rack our brains trying to figure out which one is more deserving of the coveted golden statue. Except when there are wildcards.
The four-part television event, The Tanning Of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop, has been enlightening VH1 viewers for two nights now, and it’s still running until Feb. 27, every night at 11 PM ET. We caught up with some of the most important people in media to find out how hip hop changed their lives, and continue the discussion that’s being sparked by the program. We’ve already heard from Joe La Puma of Complex Media, Rafi D’Angelo of SoLetsTalkAbout.com, Hot 97′s Miss Info, and MTV’s Rob Markman. Now we’re breaking down the culture with REVOLT TV’s Sharon Carpenter.
Scandal finally returns tomorrow night, Thursday February 27 at 10/9 C on ABC and the show’s fans will finally find out what happens next to Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant and how the show is going to handle the luminous Kerry Washington‘s in real life pregnancy.
Ever since Lorde hit the Grammy’s wearing dark, vampire-esque lips, celebs everywhere have been popping up with heavy plum lipstick. This goth-lite trend is perfect timing, since it goes fabulously with midwinter pale skin (very Wynona Rider in Beetlejuice). Of course, some celebs look more Manson than others. Kylie Jenner and Rihanna manage to look uber-intense in the look, while Selena Gomez and Katy Perry seem to be playing dress up with their depressed girlfriend’s gloss.
Either way, we’re so into it. The best part? There are a ton of shades on shelves that flatter all skin tones. If you’re fair to medium, try a neutral plum like Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Goldpearl Plum. Darker tones look fabulous in a deeper eggplant, like Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Black Plum. In the meantime, crack open The Bell Jar, cue up your Morissey playlist, and check out the ten best “bleak chic” lips of the moment!
Is Gwyneth Paltrow really that snobby? The stars from Sharknado 2 give us a preview, and Anthony Mackie takes center stage in the latest Captain America movie.
Is Kim Kardashian having more kids? Gabrielle Union hopes her strength will encourage others, and Lena Dunham gets ready for Saturday Night Live.
We’re still dealing with the sad news that one of our favorite celebrity couples, Paula Patton and Robin Thicke, have called it quits. The actress and R&B crooner were high school sweethearts who rose to fame together, but they announced their separation yesterday. We know it will take a while for Paula to mend those wounds, but with her stunning looks, we know she’ll have suitors at her door in no time. So who should the actress be checking for on the celebrity dating scene?
