Tina Majorino Not Only Gets Fandom, She Throws Harry Potter-Themed Parties

by (@katespencer)

From Napoleon Dynamite to Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, and Veronica Mars, Tina Majorino has maintained a steady presence in beloved movies and shows over the years, always with rabid fandoms in tow. She began acting as a kid (Corrina, Corrina, When A Man Loves A Woman), and she has the strange honor of being in Kevin Costner‘s epic flop Water World, which was, at the time, the most expensive movie ever made. Her career has been eclectic and unwavering, making her one of the most interesting working actresses out there today. (She’s also just really cool and down to earth with rad hair.)  Read more…

How does one decide which celeb had the hottest style look of the week?  Was it Bella Thorne gracing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiere in a leather mini (literally the size of a swath of duct tape) and a DIY turtles tee? Was it Beyonce, setting Insta on fire with a Topshop floral bralet (our new favorite word)? It was impossible to pick, so we settled on our ten favorites!

A History Of Repeat Blackface Offenders

by (@sllambe)

jonahmain

There is no question that blackface is a racist trope too regularly used on film, TV, and in magazines. While not nearly as rampant as it was in the 1930s, there have been hundreds of instances of blackface employed in the past twenty years. Everyone from Paris Hilton to Ben Stiller and Jimmy Fallon to Billy Crystal has donned a form of blackface in an attempt to be funny, controversial, or — in Hilton’s case — cute. (The things people will do for a laugh.)

The most recent use of blackface is by a repeat offender, Chris Lilley (pictured above), who is the star of the new HBO series, Jonah from Tonga. The series, which follows the story of a Tongan teenager, features Lilley in brownface make-up and a curly wig. In other series, the actor has portrayed S.mouse, an African American rap artist from California and Jen Okazaki, a Japanese mother of three.

Sadly he’s not the only entertainer that is a repeat offender. From the early days of blackface in the 1930s to now, several actors and models have turned to the controversial make-up choice to portray a person of another race.

Clueless: Cher and Josh

We’re always looking for a good romantic comedy, be it for a movie night with friends or a rainy Sunday afternoon in solitude. In recent years the output has been bleak — will anyone admit to seeing Gigli, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, or The Ugly Truth? — but we can’t help but hope and pray that soon an adorable on-screen couple will whisk us away to a land of meet-cutes and apartment parties in a tidy 90 minutes.
