5 Looks We Just Couldn’t Get Onboard With At The CFDA Fashion Awards

CFDA Worst Dressed List

Just as we were surprised by the best-dressed list at the 2012 CFDA Fashion Awards, we’re as surprised with the not-so-best dressed list. We’re not going to say “worst-dressed” here because these women are all bona fide sartorial stars. With a couple of tweaks, perhaps the outfits could have been better. We still applaud them for taking fashion risks — only, we’re not onboard with the choices they made for this particular event. We’ll start with Dakota Fanning who wore head-to-toe Proenza Schouler. She looks swamped by the fabric and her hair isn’t doing her any favors. Lily Collins suffered the same fate. The high bun just didn’t suit her, and while her Marchesa frock was young and flirty in silhouette, those wings on the bodice looked like her breasts were about to take flight, or something. We do like the metallic Giuseppe Zanotti heels, though.

The most salvageable look was Kate Bosworth‘s. While her multicolored Altuzarra dress could totally have worked, it was ruined by the random cutout on the hip and that belly-dancer embellishment. Can we just say that those Gianvito Rossi for Altuzarra ankle cuff pumps are sexy as all hell and we want them? Sadly, Jessica Chastain got it the most wrong in a white and gold Prabal Gurung cocktail dress. That “flap” is unnecessary and the color washed her out. Prabal Gurung dressed Zoe Saldana as well, in a sheer panelled gown which she accessorized with Cartier jewels. Love Zoe. Do not love these semi-sheer dresses everyone seems to be wearing. See for yourself in the gallery below.

5 Best-Dressed List For The CFDA Awards, We’re As Surprised As You Are

CFDA Awards Best Dressed

We all know what a big deal the CFDA Awards are. It’s the Council of Fashion Designers of America panel, so their vote is important. The ceremony went down in New York, at the Lincoln Center, last night, and we had our eyes peeled for the best looks. And what we found surprised us because none of these ladies, as lovely as they are, are not found often on best-dressed lists. Other than Selita Ebanks. The supermodel could wear a burlap sack and look stunning. She wore a white form-fitting Herve Leger by Max Azria gown with metallic inserts and a matching clutch. Padma Lakshmi wore an incredible black and navy textured gown by Naeem Khan which had us floored. We also had Sophia Bush in a gorgeous leggy custom tangerine jersey gown by David Meister Signature with a Daniel Swarovski clutch and two-tone pumps. Julianne Hough took on a plunging neckline but still looked beautifully styled in Kaufman Franco Chinese red stretch-crepe gown. Lastly, there was Mandy Moore who looked statuesque in a creamy  Lela Rose gown with embellished shoulders. Top points for the hot-pink lips! You can check out all the looks in the gallery below, but be sure to tell us what you think!
