Not that we didn’t already know this, but Lil Wayne is owning up to having a sizzurp addiction, which he apparently kicked last year, TMZ reports. The rapper’s confessing his problem in a documentary-style video, specifically speaking about how he used to tank up on sizzurp — which is a codeine based cough syrup — as he got more and more famous, to cope with the pressure. He got hooked initially as a kid because Pimp C, who died of an accidental overdose from the drink in 2007, used to rap about it. Pimp C was also one of Weezy‘s idols. Of quitting his habit, Wayne’s saying, “I’m not sick anymore.” We’re glad he stopped but we’re even more glad that he’s talking about it.
Jane Lynch is pretty damn good at playing at playing tough-as-nails, no-nonsense characters. And it’s no wonder, because she’s fought some pretty hard battles in her life. In addition to alcoholism, the 51-year old actress has recently opened up about an addiction to NyQuil cough syrup. She turned to the medicine, which has similar properties to alcohol, after giving up drinking over twenty years ago. “Though no longer drinking Miller Lite I was in need of something to soothe me,” she writes in her upcoming memoir, Happy Accidents. “The fact that NyQuil had alcohol in it was not something I acknowledged at all. I still considered myself on the wagon.”
She says that her problems escalated during a ten month stint acting in a Broadway play. “I was miserable the whole time,” she continued. “I’d close the drapes, take a swig of NyQuil, toast with a simple ‘bye bye’ and go into a deep sleep.” But the real breaking point came after a night of partying with the cast. “I smoked myself into oblivion that night. I still felt like crap and even lonelier that I had felt before.” She credits the incident with making her go to Alcoholics Anonymous, and she’s been sober ever since. And now that she’s wed her longtime partner Lara Embry, it’s safe to say that she’s indeed gleeful.
Did you know that Daniel Radcliffe had a drinking problem? This comes as news to a lot of people, because his excessive boozing was kept as a well-guarded secret. That’s just bad news, isn’t it? That’s how celebrities — specifically the younger ones — start sliding down fame’s very slippery slope and end up burning out. Luckily, DanRad seems to have a solid head on his shoulders and controlled what could have spiraled into quite a nasty addiction.
Daniel’s now a teetotaler who prefers nights in as opposed to nights out. And he’s spending them with a girlfriend, explaining, “I’m actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I’m really pleasant and I’m not f—ing up totally all the time!” He hasn’t specified who “she” is, but we’re guessing it’s one Olive Uniacke. If so, she’s turned a new leaf too because Olive was known to be quite the party girl. Radcliffe talks about his complete dependance on alcohol, especially after he turned 18 and during the time he was filming Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince. His choice of poison? Whisky and some hard partying.
Don’t look at us — we didn’t know and we’re not making it up either! He said, “I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamoured with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.”Daniel also talked about how nobody knew about this destructive streak of his. A lot of it was pure luck, as he revealed, “I really got away with that because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken. Our Boy Wizard has apparently, not touched a drop of booze since August last year. Good for him and thank God, he’s so level-headed! It takes some serious cojones to stop dead in your tracks like that.
Now that she’s at the Betty Ford Center, Lindsay Lohan is being forced to take a good, hard look at all her addictions, and not just the drugs and booze. Page Six reports that Lindsay is required to cut down on her Twitter and internet use, too.
A source said Lindsay is “only allowed to use her phone for two hours a day, and only to keep in touch with family and close friends.” Okay, we know that our cell phone is invaluable but yikes, to have your usage reduced to two hours? She should also be treated for BlackBerry Thumb. They also said that in the past, Lilo “would repeatedly and compulsively e-mail her friends if she was ever in a situation where she felt lonely, and she would vent on Twitter.” Reducing outside distractions like Twitter and the like is a common policy at Betty Ford so that patients can focus on themselves, according to the source who sure has a lot to say about what should be a private matter in a confidential setting. Lohan hasn’t actually posted any public Tweets since entering this latest bout of rehab, so maybe it’s working already.
The paper also reports that Dina Lohan and Kris Jenner have become besties while Lindsay’s in rehab, and that Kim Kardashian is getting friendlier with Lindsay too. That’s either really sweet and kind, or one more attempt at fame whoring from all involved. We’re sort of thinking the latter.
Melanie Griffith has checked into a rehab center again, to deal with undisclosed issues. The Hollywood star, who has suffered for years with addiction problems to alcohol and then prescription drugs, is reportedly staying at the Cirque Lodge in Utah.
“She is there to reinforce her commitment to stay healthy. This is part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago,” says her rep Robin Baum. However, other conflicting reports claim this is in a bid to save her marriage to Spanish star Antonio Banderas. Whatever the truth, we hope she gets well soon, and continues in our dream fantasy of making Working Girl 2. Hey, it could happen. [Photo: FilmMagic]
Willie Aames totally charmed our yoga pants off on Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp, with his amazing positive attitude, neverending energy and laser focus. But after he beat out all the other D Listers to win the weight loss competition, things took a bit of a downturn in Willie’s life. The former child star (and our personal 80′s crush) has admitted that he attempted to take his own life after his wife of 22 years, Maylo Upton, asked for a divorce. His relationship crumbling was the final devastating blow for Aames, who had also recently declared bankruptcy and had his car repossessed. The actor left his home in Kansas and ended up renting a room in Los Angeles, where he fell off the wagon after 20 years of sobriety.
“I stole a bottle of Jack Daniel’s from the guy I was renting the room from. I’d been sober for 20 years when I took that first drink. I was also taking antidepressants and antianxiety pills. It got so bad, I put a knife to my throat and cut myself in six places. The police came, put me in handcuffs and whisked me away. I was completely devastated… I kept asking, ‘What did I do wrong?’”
Willie landed in the psych ward at the University of Southern California, where we hope he’s on the mend. Perhaps reviving his role as the muscular and heroic Bibleman could reinvigorate his career?
