As far as we’re concerned, Snoop Dogg…we’re sorry, Snoop Lion is seconds away from signing his American Idol contract as we speak. We can only assume AI producers screamed with joy this week after they heard the rapper declare “I’ll do American Idol” in an interview. We never would have thought to pair Snoop with Mariah Carey, but now that we have, the two will never be torn asunder. American Idol spokesperson Neil Schubert has so far refused to comment on Snoop’s…comment, but we can dare to dream, can’t we? Having Mariah Carey as a judge on American Idol is one of our sweet, sweet fantasies, babies, especially if she opens each episode flying over the audience in a sleigh, singing “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” And since she’s Mariah Carey and can do whatever she wants…why wouldn’t she? No, seriously. Why wouldn’t she? Hopefully we won’t have to wait very long to find out when her sleigh takes off, as Mimi is allegedly in negotiations to join the show. “She’s in play,” a source tells People. “They are in serious talks.” Uh, the talks involve Mariah Carey potentially crushing people’s dreams on TV, so you had better believe they are serious. 

Seeing as how Steven Tyler and (as of this morning) Jennifer Lopez have left the show, and Randy Jackson has yet to be confirmed for another season, American Idol has an opportunity to totally reboot its judging panel. Or they can keep it completely the same. We don’t care as long as they put Mariah Carey on our TV screens every week. That being said, we do have plenty of other ideas for possible judge candidates. That way, if for some bizarre, tragic reason Mimi doesn’t sign on to the show (everyone, shut up! Of course she will!), at least we’ll have some consolation prizes:

Steven Tyler, we’re going to miss you. We tried to drape our great-grandma in scarves and seat her next to a DVD of Gigli, but it just wasn’t the same. American Idol definitely won’t be the same now that the Aerosmith singer decided not to return as an A.I. judge next season. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez seems to be on the fence about her involvement as well. “I am thinking that maybe it’s time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do,” JLo explained on Today…today. “Like films, and right now I’m on tour and performing — all the things that I do.” Cut to Randy Jackson hurling a chair through his dressing room mirror. Hey, that sounds like something Steven Tyler would do! While no greenrooms got trashed during his tenure (wait, were there any? We probably just didn’t hear about it), the Aerosmith singer did have a lot of insane moments during his tenure on the show. For example…

We all knew that this year’s American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips had to go into surgery for kidney stones after the show, but even he didn’t realise just how serious the operation was going to be. The singer is scheduled to leave hospital today after an intense surgery that went on for — wait for it — six hours! Apparently, Phillip let the problem go on too long because he wanted to complete Idol, resulting in the stones actually embedded themselves into his body. They had to be cut out with lasers. Ouch. Can you imagine standing with that sort of condition, let alone sing? We can’t even believe he could belt out all the notes considering what duress his body was under.

The good news is that the surgery was optimum and Phillip will be resting in a rather plush location. The word is that an AI top dog has lent the season winner his Malibu mansion for the duration of his recovery. Everyone has a stake in this because Phillip has to tour in a month! The whirlwind begins on July 6 in Detroit and Phil squared has said, “If I can sing with all those kidney stones in me, I can make the first date.” Feel better soon!

Another year, and another season of American Idol has run its course. But before we tell you who the Season 11 winner is, we wanted to discuss who turned up for the results show. As expected, AI alumni swarmed. One of the most famous of this group is Carrie Underwood, who arrived looking super glam in Badgley Mischka along with her husband, Mike Fisher. Jordin Sparks looked lovely in white, along with Jason Derulo. Taylor Hicks, Fantasia, Pia Toscano, Haley Reinhart and a fair few posed on the carpet too. It was a particularly special night for two past Idol-ers. Remember Ace Young and Diana Degarmo? Well, they’ve been dating for some time now, and he actually proposed to her onstage at the show! She said yes, of course. We were also correct in assuming that Rihanna would have dreadlocks while performing, because that’s precisely the look she rocked while singing “Where Have You Been.”

Apart from the American Idol family, a few other familiar faces did pop up as well, to watch. Janice Dickinson, Jane Lynch, Melora Hardin, Chaka Khan, Julianne Hough and Jane Seymour were all spotted. But no matter who was in the audience, the night, quite rightly, belonged to the two final contestants — Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez. Who won the show? We’ve got the gallery of celebrities followed right by the jump, that’ll take you to the answer!

After being named #1 on Forbes’ 2012 Celebrity 100 and pulling in over $50 million last year, we can understand why Jennifer Lopez might be ready to move on from her American Idol gig. What else is there for her to accomplish sitting next to Steven Tyler? “There is just too much going on for her right now,” a source told Us Magazine. “She regrets she can’t stay on the show. It’s been an incredible experience and she is forever grateful that she did it.” JLo herself seemed to indicate the desire to vacate her judge’s chair for the next lucky butt. “Now this is my second year — I don’t know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things,” Lopez said on Ellen today. Other things like co-headlining a concert with Enrique Iglesias, starring in more films and piloting a personal space craft to Mars, perhaps? Okay, maybe not that last one, but it would be nice to have the option. She certainly has the money for it…

While Jennifer might be ready to leave the dream crushing to someone else, the people behind A.I. seem determined to keep her on the show. “We want her back. I want her back,” American Idol‘s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TMZ today. “I know how much she loves doing the show and how much she cares for the kids. It’s a business. She has to weigh everything. I know she’s gotten lots of offers to do movies and other things.” We wonder how much A.I. would be willing to fork over to have Jennifer stay. On the other hand, space exploration could really use that $50 million, JLo. We’re not trying to sway you either way, we’re just saying…give it some thought. It’s something to consider.

The time is here. David Archuleta let us know in December last year that he was going to take two years off the music circuit to become a Mormon missionary. Now, just three short months later, he’s off! David has posted one last video blog on YouTube to his fans before embarking on his journey. It’s long, rambling in parts, but very earnest and sweet. You can see that there’s a whole lot going on with him. It’s not the easiest decision to make. Think about it, American Idol star becoming a modern-day missionary. We think it’s incredible and truly respect him for what he’s doing. David’s off to South America this week and he says, “This is a very personal decision at the same time I appreciate you guys being respectful of that I’ll be doing and what I’ve been trying to focus on…” It’s almost like a conversation with his fans, telling them that he’s still going to be around and that he wants to hear from them.
