These two are so off-the-radar it makes them even more adorable. They’ve been together for five years now, but did Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard secretly get married? If they did, then that would be the coolest f’ing guerilla wedding ever! The reason why we’re hearing chapel bells is because of a particular tweet Kristen sent out yesterday that read, “My adorable husband, @daxshepard1 voting 4 his favorite american idol. Over and over again.”
See what we mean? She used the “H” words as opposed to boyfriend, or fiance (Dax popped the question a year ago). So what gives guys? A rep for them tried to cover it up saying, “They are not married but they refer to each other as husband and wife” but that sounds lame. We still think there’s more to it and kinda hoping they really are The Shepards now.
Apparently, lights have been flickering on and off inside the house, spiders have infested the space and some even claim they saw a bed sheet rise up to float, on its own, in a hallway. To add to their already frayed nerves, the roof has sprung a leak thanks to the rain on Sunday. Nothing like the sound of water dripping amidst the silence to freak someone out, right? America’s finest asked to be moved because they couldn’t handle the “boo’s” (off stage) and have been moved to an undisclosed location. Who you gonna call….! Simon Cowell? He’d scare the s— out of anyone, from this world or the next.
Guess Joe Perry doesn’t think American Idol is “one step above Ninja Turtles” anymore. Judge Steven Tyler confirmed that his band Aerosmith will be joining him on Idolfor a performance later this season. “I thought it was a big secret. I guess the cat’s out of the bag!” said Tyler, with co-star/ex-Journey bassist Randy Jackson adding, “I’m gonna judge, and then I’ll jump on and perform with them!” Jennifer Lopez is also set to hit the stage this season, though that a) was pretty much guaranteed from day one and b) is nowhere as exciting as The Aerosmith-Randy Jackson Experience.
Though Joe Perry is just behind Slash in the Guitarist Who Will Stand On Stage Next To Any Pop Star At Any Time sweepstakes, it’s still surprising to learn he’ll be on the show after Joe’s harsh words about Idollast year. “[Idol] is a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising,” he told the Calgary Herald, adding he doesn’t want Aerosmith “associated with the show” and, yes, that it was “it’s one step above Ninja Turtles.” Sure, this was back when Joe and Steven were fighting over Aerosmith’s future, but we still feel like sending him some nunchaku.
That Emily Browning has some nerve. Though her potential breakthrough Sucker Punch doesn’t come until the end of the month, she went and upstaged star Amanda Seyfried at her Red Riding Hood premiere last night by showing up in a tiny red strapless dress. Red! And she’s not even in the movie! Adding injury to the insult was Seyfried’s battle with her own dress, which had her tugging at the bottom all night like she was worried about flashing the paps. Hopefully the Twilight crowd will support director Catherine Hardwicke‘s new movie at the box office, so Amanda doesn’t have to storm the Sucker Punch premiere in a racy school-girl outfit. Actually, we’d love that.

It felt like the women of American Idol were on shakier ground than the men this week, judging from last night’s performances. There were far fewer ladies who are definite locks to advance to the next round, although it’s safe to say Pia Toscano gave the best performance of the night. Toscano received the first standing ovation of the season for her rendition of “I’ll Stand By You,” and as the night’s final performer, it was clear that the producers knew they had something amazing with her and saved the best for last.
Also impressive were the youngest competitors, Thia Megia, who we actually are pretty sure is 30 and not 15, and country girl Lauren Alaina. Beyond that, we have no idea who will make it. Let us know who your favorite female singer from last night was in our poll, and tell us in the comments who you think should go home. (We personally need Haley Reinhart and her throaty growl to take a hike. Are we wrong?)
Last night marked American Idol‘s first live show of the season where America finally got to cast its vote. We loved a lot of the performances last night—it’s definitely apparent that this season is the strongest ever—and it’s going to be sad to see seven of these guys not make it through. Personally, we think Jacob Lusk (Luther Vandross 2.0), James Durbin (Adam Lambert 2.0), Scotty McCreery (Deepest Voice Ever) and Casey Abrams (Dorky Beardo) are definitely going to make it, while Jordan Dorsey, Brett Loewenstern and Tim Halperin might be in trouble.
As for the rest, Paul “Whitest Teeth We’ve Ever Seen” McDonald, Robbie “Looks Just Like Cartoon Aladdin” Rosen, Stefano “Wait, isn’t he Jovany?” Langone, Jovany “Wait, no, that’s not Stefano” Barreto, and Clint Jun Gamboa are all question marks in our book—good, for sure, but not the best. So tell us, what do you think? Who was your favorite singer of the night?
The American Idol Sob Story is a trademark of the show, and there’s always at least one contestant whose heartbreak and hardships are inspiring. This season, the Idol Sob Story belonged to Chris Medina, a singer whose fianceé, Juliana, was in a car accident that left her brain-damaged and under the constant care of her mother and Medina, who remains devoted to her. So when it came time for the judges to choose the final 24 contestants of the season and Medina wasn’t one of them, it was a little tough to see him go, especially for Jennifer Lopez, who cried as she delivered the news.
Lopez has been slowly winning us over with her gig at Idol this season. Overall, the show has become a kinder, more supportive environment thanks to Lopez and her fellow new judge Steven Tyler, but last night, Lopez showed some serious emotion and started bawling after telling Medina he was out. “It honestly breaks my heart to say this but you did not make it,” Lopez said before melting down into a Jenny From The Block sized puddle of tears, which made us melt a little too. While Medina bowed out gracefully, the episode took a bizarre turn as it ended on a “To Be Continued” note, with Lopez saying “I don’t want to do this anymore.” Usually the Idol cliffhangers are reserved for which contestants will leave the show, not whether or not a judge will leave. We do have to say that J. Lo’s breakdown does make her more human, but do you really think she’ll leave the show?
American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson‘s new album art has been released, and Hudson looks fantastic on the cover photo. The singer and recent Weight Watchers spokeswoman has lost a lot of weight over the past couple years (she reportedly dropped 5 dress sizes) and looks like a goddess on the cover of I Remember Me. Apparently not everyone believes that it’s all her in the photo though, as Hudson Tweeted recently “I’m online reading comments about my album cover. Yes that’s my real size n yes my arms n hands are that long.” So let’s put that question to rest, okay people? The girl looks great and it’s all her. The album comes out on March 22.
Another American Idol alum who’s in the news for her transforming body is Fantasia. The Idol winner is in the process of gaining a whopping 45 pounds in order to play Mahalia Jackson in an upcoming film about the gospel singer. Filming begins in May. When asked about the weight gain, Fantasia’s manager joked that she wasn’t expecting a child, but that she is “pregnant with prosperity.” We should all have jobs that require us to eat tubs of ice cream for four months straight. Does this film need any chubby extras?
During season eight of American Idol the only truly memorable contestant, let’s face it, was Adam Lambert. Despite the fact that Lambert didn’t win the season, he remains the most successful singer to come out of the show in 2009. While most of the other hopefuls that year have been forgotten, we will always have a soft spot in our heart for Allison Iraheta, the lone girl in the final four that season whose voice was way more mature than her seventeen years.
Cut to this week when we spotted some pics of Iraheta performing in Los Angeles and we almost didn’t recognize her. The girl has lost some weight since she was a contestant on the show (check out a pic from Season 8 here) and has a darker, less severe dye job, too. We’re loving her makeover and hope it helps her finally get the recognition she deserves. What do you think, Idol fans?
