Steve Carell Ponders The Importance Of Hygiene When Facing The Apocalypse

Like Keira Knightley, Steve Carell did a lot of thinking about his own hypothetical reaction to the apocalypse while making Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. But we almost stumped him when we asked what the first thing he’d stop doing if there were only three weeks left for mankind.

“I don’t know why the first thing I thought of was brushing my teeth, but that’s just disgusting!” he told VH1. “I don’t know what’s the point of stopping [that]. You know, you can’t worry about cavities, but I would definitely keep up hygiene.”

Steve Carell Says Anchorman 2 Teaser Shoot “Was Like No Time Had Passed At All”

A lot of things have changed for Steve Carell since he uttered the famous phrase “I love lamp” as Brick Tamland in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. After all, the 2004 movie came out a month before The 40-Year-Old Virgin and eight months before The Office premiered on NBC, and many of us still thought of him as “Produce Pete” from the Daily Show. So when VH1 Celebrity caught up with Carell as he was doing press for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (in theaters June 22), we wondered if he thought his higher profile would mean a bigger part for the lovable weatherman in the sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, due to begin filming next February or March.

“I have no idea. I kind of hope not,” Carell told us. “I feel that Brick is best taken in small doses. And I see it as an ensemble, aside from Will [Ferrell]. I hope it’s kind of the same setup as the first one.”

And after all these years, Carell seems to think that ensemble will be just as great together as the first time around.
