How gorgeous did everyone look at the massive Vanity Fair Oscar party at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood! We had already seen the likes of winners Natalie Portman and Colin Firth at the show, but plenty of other celebrities, who we hadn’t necessarily focussed on, came out to play. And one couple who got adorably frisky together were Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, who held hands and were quite cozy through out. Can we also say Selena rocked it in a gorgeous red Dolce & Gabbana gown? Sure it’s grown up, but Ms Gomez pulled it off admirably especially with the Biebs accessorizing her arm! She also was cutesy with pal Taylor Swift who sparkled (as usual) in a strapless gold beaded Zuhair Murad mini dress.
Gwyneth Paltrow also changed out of her Oscar gown into the Michael Kors number she wore to perform onstage, and posed with buddy Cameron Diaz. The latter’s legs went on for miles in a flirty short-short Carolina Herrera. Other couples included Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel who wore sexy Versace, and Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin who looked great in a red Monique Lhuillier dress. Do you ever look back at a picture that one of your friends posts of you on Facebook and think, “Hmmm, I wasn’t exactly at the top of my game that night?” Well, when these eight celebs Google themselves in the morning, that’s pretty much exactly what they’ll be thinking about the 2011 Oscars. We’re not going to go as far as to call them the night’s worst dressed stars, exactly, but we’ll say this: James Franco, Fran Lebowtiz, Javier Bardem, Florence Welch, Scarlett Johansson, Michelle Williams, Russell Brand and Emma Roberts, step your game up! #tryharder
The 2011 Oscars were so predictable that even the upset was obvious. While the acting awards went to the same people they’ve been going to this whole season (Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, Natalie Portman and Colin Firth must need a wall of shelves for their trophies by now), The King’s Speech beat longtime favorites The Social Network for Best Picture, which would have been a surprise if forecasters hadn’t seen the Weinstein Company’s promo efforts from a mile away, and if Tom Hooper‘s Best Director win over David Fincher didn’t telegraph the inevitable. But hey, there’s always the little awards, right? Watch VH1 News correspondent Janell Snowden talk to celebs on the red carpet and then see the full list of winners after the jump.
Tonight’s Academy Awards were extraordinary not just for the stunning gowns, the surging emotions, and Jennifer Hudson‘s shockingly teeny waist. Seriously, when did that woman become a walking toothpick? No, the most remarkable part of the show was the sheer number of times we stared at the screen in complete disbelief and yelled, “Whaaaaa?” From the skin-crawling to the unfunny, the obscene to the blundering, here are our top five picks for the most cringe-inducing moments at the 83rd Academy Awards (and there were a lot):
5) Melissa Leo drops the F-bomb: As adorable as it was to see a stunned Leo snag Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Fighter, hearing her develop a cause of pirate mouth in front of all those couture gowns almost made our monocle fall into our champagne flute. You ain’t Charlestown anymore, Leo!
4) The Ghost of Bob Hope introduces Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law: Bob Hope has been dead for almost eight years, and he still managed to be a funnier, more charming host than Franco or Hathaway. Not that it makes using a hologram of the deceased star any less creepy. In fact, we were so weirded out by Zombie Bob Hope, we almost couldn’t enjoy the smoking hot Jude zinging the equally gorgeous Robert. Obviously we did, but still, it shouldn’t have been that hard.
While ladies like Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lawrence were rocking red at the Oscars, there were plenty of grand gowns at the ceremony that didn’t match the carpet. Check our 5 sans-scarlet favorites in the gallery below, from Mila Kunis‘ risque practically-lingerie to Halle Steinfeld‘s darling debutate look to Marisa Tomei‘s old school couture. Four major Hollywood actresses heated up the 2011 Oscars red carpet by wearing red gowns. Co-host Anne Hathaway (in Valentino) and Sandra Bullock (in Vera Wang) both look classically sexy in strapless numbers with modest trains and matching red lipstick. Presenter Jennifer Hudson, in a Versace gown that’s more blood-orange than blood-red, went with a retro updo and cat eyes. But it was relative newbie Jennifer Lawrence who may have turned the most heads, possibly because her tight-fitting red Calvin Klein gown is the polar opposite from her Winter’s Bone look. E! fashion commentator Kelly Osbourne called it the sexiest dress of the entire awards season. And the Oscar for Sexiest Lady in Red goes to …

There were plenty of big stars on the Oscar red carpet, but the biggest might have been Natalie Portman, whose pregnancy has given her far more curves than she was showing in Black Swan. Check out the mega-gallery below to see everyone from Amy Adams to Russell Brand‘s mom giving up the glam on their way to the Academy Awards.

Scarlett Johansson has already made a big impression at the Oscars. Not only did she show up in a backless, burgundy Dolce & Gabbana gown covered in sheer lace, but she brought along a mystery man (who turned out to be Scarlett’s agent, Joe Machota). Do you think she’s heating things up with this show-offy dress or is she just overheated? Check out the gallery to get a better look at her dress and let us know what you think!
When Anne Hathaway was picked out of obscurity to play the lead in The Princess Diaries in 2001, who could have guessed that she’d be joining that cute James Franco guy from Freaks & Geeks to host the Oscars only a decade later. The 28-year-old Catwoman-to-be is the youngest host in the history of the show (Goldie Hawn was in her thirties when she co-hosted in 1976), and judging from Anne’s rump shaking in that Oscar promo clip, she’s going to be goofy as well as gorgeous. Check out 20 of her hottest looks (Anne’s ruffled capri pants just missed the cut) in the gallery below—expect more amazing dresses when hits the stage Sunday!

While these photos of Scarlett Johansson beating the rush before an Art Of Elysium event in LA yesterday are more than worthy of your attention on their own (if you’ve never fantasized about ScarJo flirting with you in an art gallery before—you will now), the actress also spilled the beans about who she’ll be standing with at this weekend’s Oscar ceremony. “I believe I’ll be presenting with Matthew McConaughey,” Scarlett told PopSugar. “So I have a dreamboat on my arm…or perhaps I’ll be his dreamboat this year.” No offense to the Sexiest Man Alive of 2005—who almost made the heist film Brilliance with Johansson in 2008—but we’re going to say Scarlett is the dreamboat this year. Here’s the real question, though: will the Sexiest Man Alive of 2010, ex-husband Ryan Reynolds, make an appearance, too?
Check out the photos of Scarlett making her bids at Siren Studios yesterday if you appreciate…art. Yeah, that’s it. Art.
