In an unprecedented move, 12-year NBA Center Jason Collins has come out of the closet on the cover of Sports Illustrated, making him the first openly gay active professional player from one of the “big four” American sports (baseball, basketball, football and hockey).
Technically, the object of basketball is to put a cantaloupe-sized rubber ball through a hoop. But champs know that the real goal is to turn up at the post-game press conference looking like a true baller in stylin’ threads! The Oklahoma City Thunder stomped on the San Antonio Spurs last night, earning them a spot in the NBA Finals. 23-year-old team captain Kevin Durant lead the crew to a 107-99 victory during the sixth game of the semi-finals.
In addition to their athletic superiority, the Thunder have long proved themselves to be the snazziest team in the league. Durant and his teammates Russell Westbrook and James Harden are often seen off court wearing outfits that are louder than the final buzzer! Oklahoma City will go on to play either the Miami Head or the Boston Celtics in the finals. But no matter who gets the most baskets, the Thunder definitely wins the fashion style-off. Head on down to the gallery below for some of their greatest post-game press conference outfits of all time. Enjoy!
Khloe Kardashian’s husband Lamar Odom announced today that he is leaving the Dallas Mavericks after playing for the team for less than a season. Despite the fact that Lamar had the worst season of his career, he insists that the decision to leave was “mutual.” For those of you who’ve never been dumped, that’s code for “they kicked his ass out.”
“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” the power forward said in a statement to ESPN today. “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.” Lamar will remain on the team’s “inactive” list for the remainder of the season, which probably means that this season of Khloe & Lamar is going to feature a lot of crying in the bathroom.
Reportedly Lamar never really felt at home on the Dallas team, and really was still hung up on his true love: the L.A. Lakers, who unceremoniously traded him this past fall. “Lamar hasn’t gotten over being traded from the Lakers, and he has been depressed and moody ever since the trade happened,” a friend of Khloe and Lamar told RadarOnline. “He couldn’t fathom the fact that the Lakers traded him after all of his years with the team.” He’s hoping that a move back to Los Angeles will bolster his spirits.
We admit, this all has got to be pretty embarrassing for Lamar. How does it stack up with that other painfully short Kardashian union between sister-in-law Kim and fellow baller Kris Humphries? Let’s take a look at the stats…
Kobe Bryant must now hand over his nickname “Black Mamba” and submit to Zorro henceforth. There is no other explanation for his ownership of the super stylin’ mask he put on at the Lakers-Pistons game on Tuesday night. We’ve seen the clear guard — pictorially depicted on the right — a zillion times, but whutup with the sleek black version he had on for the first quarter? Because we’ve never seen one at a game … ever. No one’s ever switched it up like our man here. Maybe he was trying to be this guy?
Apparently, the black mask is more comfortable because it doesn’t fog up like the clear one. That’s on point — just look at how messy it gets. And he needed a mask in the first place to protect his broken nose. That’s the official explanation. We also think it’s because he had three new faceguards made in Detroit, by the maker of Richard Hamilton’s masks, and just wanted to show them off. He’s a man of the world and he’s gotta know that Fashion Week season is on, right? And because, as mentioned before, who doesn’t love Zorro? Sadly, his superheroic efforts came to a screeching halt in the second quarter and he came back on with the clear version because his newer swag kept slipping. Style comes at a price. But we need to know whether his new style won you over or not? Or should he not care and just play the game?

If you can’t stand the heat, definitely don’t stand next to Gabrielle Union at the beach! The Bring It On star spend Labor Day in the sands of Miami with her basketball-star beau Dwayne Wade and her two children, Zaire and Zion. The hot mama showed some spirit for her man’s team, wearing bikini bottoms emblazoned with the word “heat”. But the famous Miami Heat hasn’t got a thing on Gabrielle. Lamar Odom had a pretty nasty car accident on Saturday in New York. Fortunately he wasn’t injured, but the bad news is that the other party involved had it quite bad. TMZ reports that Lamar was in a car in Queens (he wasn’t driving) which slammed into a motorcyclist and a 15-year-old boy, who are both in Elmhurst hospital and in bad shape. Media TakeOut reports it was a “devastating” accident, but we’re praying that’s an exaggeration. Lamar was apparently in town for his cousin’s funeral and was seriously disturbed by the events, as anyone with a heart would be. We really hope the two injured persons are not in critical condition and heal soon.
Unfortunately the Dallas Mavericks beat the L.A Lakers, but the very close game was witnessed by a number of stars who watched intently at Staples Center. Of them, we’ve already brought up birthday boy David Beckham celebrating with Gordon Ramsey. Seal was also there, along with his adorable daughter Leni, and was seen taking photographs of the on court action. We were also stoked to see a pregnant January Jones arrive at the game with her pal Jennifer Carpenter. Throw in Justin Timberlake, Joe Jonas, Eddie Murphy, Ricky Martin and Chord Overstreet and you have one seriously celebrity-heavy game! Check out the photographs from our gallery below. Bromance alert! This relationship may have gone under our radar till now, but it’s apparently been flourishing for years. David Beckham and Gordon Ramsey, fellow Brits and BFF are pictured at the Staples Center here, catching the Lakers vs. Mavericks game. Do you think they were they discussing last week’s royal wedding? Perhaps, but supposedly these two are considering Ramsey wants to open a restaurant with Beck’s and his wife, Victoria Beckham. Eenteresting. Whatever happens with that plan, we think these two make a handsome pair. Beckham is a hottie but we’ve always thought Gordon wasn’t too shabby at all too. Yes, he may look like a pugilist; we’re still sticking to our statement! What’s even cuter about all of this? It was David’s 36th birthday yesterday and he spent (some of) it with Gordon! Happy happies, Becks! [Photos: Splash News Online]
Stars of varying caliber flocked to the Stapes Center last night to schmooze, network and cheer on the Lakers in their game against the Denver Nuggets. Zac Efron sat sandwiched between two older dudes (agents? managers?) while a pregnant Ellen Pompeo cuddled court-side with hubby Chris Ivery. Kim Kardashian was also on the scene in sky high heels, while MIA gave the peace sign to the cameras as she shuffled by.
