Jackson’s Will Leaves Out Abusive Father

In the 2003 interview Living With Michael Jackson, the King of Pop opened up about how he was abused both physically and mentally throughout his entire childhood. Joe Jackson would allegedly “tear up” Michael Jackson and his brothers for even the slightest misstep during a Jackson 5 rehearsal — and Michael claimed the abuse was so severe that he’d become sick at the mere sight of his dad. So it should come as no surprise that Michael seems to have left his father with nothing in his will.

Drafted in 2002, the singer is said to be dividing his estate between his mother, his three kids (who maybe don’t even technically belong to him?), and at least one charity. Although Michael’s estate is  a whopping $500 million in debt, his assets could be significant as he still owns half of Sony’s music catalog (we’re talking the Beatles and Bob Dylan as well as Lady Gaga and the Jonas Brothers).

Michael’s parents both claim that he died without a valid will. With a legal battle surely on the horizon, one would think that father Joe would be on his best behavior — or at least refrain from trying to promote his record company at the BET Awards three days after Michael’s sudden death. Chris Brown’s BET Awards Performance Cancelled After Protest

It’s a rough time for Chris Brown, and it seems like while there are some people (Rihanna) who can forgive him of his transgressions, there are others who still hold grudges. Brown was set to perform at the BET Awards on Sunday but certain influential folks like Al Sharpton and Jay-Z weren’t having it and the singer’s performance was pulled.

A source told the New York Daily News: “Al made such a fuss to the BET executives that they pulled Chris. Jay is a big name in the BET community, and he was very vocal about his displeasure with Chris attending the ceremony. He didn’t want Chris anywhere near the awards so close to the court’s ruling.”

That Jay-Z would put up this kind of stink is no surprise. When news of Rihanna’s beating broke in February, Jay was allegedly enraged and called Chris a “walking dead man.” He has long been protective of Rihanna since discovering her five years ago and signing her to Def Jam Records. Janet Jackson Thanks Fans At BET Awards

Although her brother Michael Jackson died just five days ago, a brave Janet Jackson took the stage at the BET awards last night to thank fans for their love and support. As a photo of a young Michael and Janet flashed on the screen behind her, Janet explained to the audience, “My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful.”

Joe Jackson Mourns Michael’s Death At The BET Awards

It’s no secret that Joe Jackson is a big reason that his son Michael Jackson‘s childhood was so troubled. To say he was a disciplinarian would be putting it lightly, but it’s obvious even now that their relationship was unusual and Joe viewed his son as an entity and not so much as family. At the BET Awards last night, Joe made an appearance and spoke to CNN on the red carpet and it’s pretty safe to say Joe doesn’t mourn like most people. We take all of these quotes with a grain of salt because maybe he’s still in shock regarding Michael’s death, but there’s still something troubling about his responses in the interview.

When asked how he’s doing he says “I’m great! My family’s doing pretty good. . .Remember, we just lost the biggest star, superstar, in the world, it’s been tough.” Odd that he didn’t mention losing a son though.  Later he had his attorney and another woman speak for him and  then diverted conversation away from Michael and discussed a Blu-Ray venture with his business partner.

At the awards ceremony Janet Jackson showed some social grace at least, when she took the stage and made the following statement, “To you, Michael is an icon. To us, he is family. He will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much.”

Style Wars: Cassie Vs. Keri

Cassie and Keri Hilson are both P.Y.T.s with edgy haircuts. Last night at the BET Awards, each newcomer took a fashion risk. Cassie rocked a barely-there black ensemble while Keri went all out bedazzled. Which questionable choice paid off?
